Sounds like you should leave. There is no shortage of advice on how to divorce. If you can't find your peace in your current situation, change your situation. The villain in one story can be a hero in another. When 2 people feel unloved and they don't want to or can't fix it, then maybe they need to not be together.

My advice is be prepared that you will still have the same feeling after divorce though less hurtful. You need to lift yourself up, love yourself when no one loves you. Accept loving others more doesn't mean they will do the same for you (care about you). In general, low or no expectations on things you have no control about and focus on what you can control, aka what you can do to make yourself happier.

I'm 60. A man. I left my marriage about 4 months ago.

My one child grew up. I left (no point in staying now).

It is hard but you will survive.

Life is too damned short to spend it in a loveless marriage with a person who only wants your money who does not give a DAMN about you.

I (60 M) want to leave the marriage. I'm not seeing any one else, I just want out. I'm just uncomfortable being the villain in this story. Any advice on 1) how to handle the emotions of filing. Or 2) how to live with someone who doesn't care about me and vice versa? Thanks.

There will be lots of emotions, prepare with a regular counselling session start now before you even separate and friends you can confined i, those who are sympathetic. Not sure what type of person you are, you might end up getting very lonely at times during the filling and will need that buddy to call upon.
Assuming you still love her that's why you care that they are not caring. There is nothing you can do but just accept the fact they they may have moved on don't live you the same way. You can make people love you, something love just runs out, and not much you can do. And if you are staying it will be very very hard untill one day you too will just give up could be a year or 10 years from now and there is a chance you will end up here again thinking about leaving. Or there is just staying for the convenience and or fear of leaving that happens a lot.

You will always be the villain in someone else’s story, controlling the narrative is out of your hands. Hell, you already are the villain in someone else’s story and may not know it. If the relationship is dead from your point of view, do not be afraid to walk away. It may hurt, but if you refuse to give in to the depths of despair, you will walk out the other side stronger and more fulfilled. It’s hard work, but worth the effort.

Just do it. I only lasted a year and a half of being the “villain” . I lost money but my piece of mind is worth more.

I had the same issue, honestly, you're going to be the villain either way. Just accept the role and do what makes you happy. It's tough to be somewhere you don't want to be, maybe time to restart a hobby?
