I’ve been through divorce one with a child , this is my second divorce with children . It absolutely sucks , just nothing more to say . I pray everyday that it will get easier .

It’s been about a year and some change since my divorce. She initiated the divorce and her and I have been in a limbo state since the beginning of 2024. So many on and off moments where she would want comfort because she’s missing me and I would lean into it only for her to stop shortly after. I’ve grown a lot since then and she’s definitely noticed. She tells me she sees the change and that is what is confusing her. She thought after she divorced me that I would continue being who I was and to her, it would justify her divorcing me. Now that I’ve done a lot of emotional work and I’ve started working through my childhood trauma and actually discovering myself, she tells me that she’s not ready to start anything new but also afraid I’m going to be my best self for someone else.

This is where I’ve been for a while now. We are going to counseling to try and work through a lot of issues we had when we were together but I feel like she blames me for almost everything. I’m not saying I didn’t play a part in her decision because I definitely did. I take accountability for everything I could’ve done better in our relationship. I know I could’ve shown up more and actually treated our relationship as more of a partnership and her as my teammate instead of what was modeled to me as a kid. I live with my past actions every day. I understand her reluctance to want to try again or allow herself to be vulnerable again. I don’t have negative feelings towards her nor do I hate her or wish her the worst. She was my best friend. My everything. I know we didn’t have the healthiest relationship and we definitely were trauma bonded and very codependent but I see what we could be now.

I’m constantly learning how to not only be a better partner but also a better father and a better person in general. I’m not trying to boast or anything but I know I’ve come a long way and I feel like she still lives in the past and still only sees me for who I was and not who I am but at the same time, I can’t blame her.

Feeling stuck, lost and honestly didn’t mean to write this much but I appreciate anyone who read this. I’ve never gotten DMs through Reddit before but I’m open to talking more about this if anyone is interested. Thank you.
