If your lawyer is good with filing for the TPO and you have the money - go for it. If there's a high likelihood she'll do it if you don't, even if you don't have the money, do it. Maintain the offensive until the case settles or you can't do it anymore. Never show her you have any weakness in the case and that you are resolute in reaching your goals no matter what she throws at you. Laugh at whatever she files and respond accordingly.

Seizing the initiative is almost never a bad move. "Filing first" may not have an advantage from a technical legal perspective, but these cases aren't about law, they're about two people trying to (or to avoid) ripping each other's guts out through the court system. Showing strength is usually the best, especially if you haven't been doing that typically in the relationship as of late.

Nonetheless, if a serious settlement opportunity arises - take it.

Once you file it’s no longer the marriage but a business deal, so protect what/who you can from the beginning

It's definitely to YOUR advantage to file FIRST and create any protection orders you can think of. Like she can't destroy the house, or abduct your children or whatever else you think she's capable of. For example, she can't leave the state with your kids, or leave town, etc. If SHE files first, then she can likely get whatever she wants, like evicting you from the home.

I filed for a divorce and TRO. Not sure how much it different but setting ground rules is always good. Keep in mind rules are for both.
