Male in 50s. Getting divorced after a very long marriage (decades). Adult children grown and flown and living their lives.

We both migrated so I don’t have any family in the area. Her mother migrated as well and lives nearby ( one of the many reasons).

We have some long term common friends. Consciously or unconsciously they are all banded on her side. I’m no social recluse, I have a couple of “my” friends but she was definitely the social director of the family.

I’m wrangling with the decision about whether I stay in place or move far enough away. I get emotionally riled up every time I see her (and her mom) which is unavoidable if I want to maintain the friendships with common friends. Or move away and try to build and cultivate new friendships - which at this age seems impossible, esp for men. I hear so much about divorced men being lonely.

Wondering if there are any who have stayed near their ex wife willingly (not forced because of children, or because you have family) and how did it work out for you? Does this intense emotional turmoil at the sight of her get any better with time?

Any thoughts/experiences/advice would be be appreciated.
