That's not accurate, the filing date represents your claim of when the community property ended, You can certainly use that or any other date you feel the community ended. However the date to use for asset split will be determined by the court. 9 out 10 times the date you claim the community ended is usually accepted by the court (contests are rare)

It really depends on where the money came from.

Generally, any money received on either side, After divorce petition, is separate.

But if that money came from a marital property source? Then it's marital.

For example, if you did a cash out of retirement account? That's still marital funds.

but if you got a big bonus from work? That's separate...

So where did this money come from?
