I've been out of the house for a little over one month. I sat on the fence for years and getting out has been the best decision for me. Mood is better. Blood pressure is down (I know because I'm on meds for it and measure it). I'm not stressed when there's a call/text from spouse.

I've posted details of situation elsewhere here and won't repeat those. In my situation (stage of life and financial--I'm retired and in my 50s) moving out made sense. I had advice on that and other things from 2 lawyers. Remember that situations are different and there is not a 1 size fits all approach. Other than if you've been thinking of leaving--don't wait forever and talk to a lawyer BEFORE you do ANYTHING.

I put personal/sentimental things in storage well before I move out because of advice I saw here. Really glad I did that.

I'm getting back into a couple of hobbies I gave up years ago...and that's been good. I'm looking at ways to supplement my income once our finances are two separate entities. Making myself cook and have kept my new location cleaner than I ever kept my separate bedroom in our marital home. Forcing myself to keep things neat and tidy as it's something to do and (within reason) neatness makes a place easier to live in.

I'm not certain what the point of this post is, but if you're an empty nester who has been unhappy for years and have had thought about divorce or getting out for years, at the very least...talk to a lawyer and see what your options are. I decided I was not going to get any happier where I was and that I could not live with her after we were both retired. I took my crazy ass blood pressure as a warning sign.
