Mother’s Day turned into one of the most surreal and toxic family interactions I’ve ever experienced.

My sister decided it was the perfect time to interrogate my 18 year old son in front of the entire family about his relationship with his mother after my ex wife’s affairs blew our family apart.

Not privately.

Not respectfully.

Not because she genuinely cared about him.

No. She turned it into a public emotional performance.

She started lecturing him that “your mom is a cheater, that’s just who she is” and that he basically needs to ignore it, move on, and love her anyway.

Meanwhile this kid’s entire life got detonated over the last few months.

His parents separated.

He lost his home.

Had to transfer colleges because I’m moving across the country for a new career.

Lost his friends.

Lost his routine.

Lost his dog.

When he came back home after his mom moved out, she had even taken his bedroom set and left him with boxes of clothes.

But apparently everyone should just focus on HER feelings.

Then my sister turned to me and started poking and prodding about “my role” in the cheating and what I did to “cause” my ex wife to cheat.

That alone was insane.

But here’s the part that makes it even crazier:

My sister herself cheated on her own husband multiple times. One of the affairs was with her former high school teacher. Yet she sat there preaching that women cheating is “normal,” and that it usually happens because the MAN is lacking somewhere in the relationship and the woman has “needs” she has to fulfill.

All of this. On Mother’s Day. In front of the entire family.

And every single person just sat there silently while she emotionally hijacked the entire day.

Then came the fake tears.

Suddenly she’s crying to my son telling him how much she loves him and cares about him.

This is a woman who has barely checked in on him in over a decade.

Never cared about:

- his wrestling

- his band concerts

- his school trip to London

- his college plans

- his graduation

Hell, she skipped his graduation party entirely.

But now suddenly she’s deeply emotionally invested?

What kills me most is how people rewrite history around mothers once cheating enters the conversation.

My son’s mom lied to him for years about the affairs. She brought him around affair partners when he was little. According to what later came out, she was literally taking him to affair partners’ homes as a child.

And if I’m being honest, she barely handled basic parenting responsibilities. I was the one making doctor appointments, handling day to day care, birthdays, school stuff, all of it.

But according to my sister — the serial cheater herself — my ex “has a good heart.”

I honestly don’t even know what bothers me more:

the hypocrisy, the manipulation, or watching my son have to sit there and absorb all of it while grown adults acted like this behavior was normal.

Has anyone else dealt with a family member this toxic? The kind that weaponizes “love” while contributing absolutely nothing positive to your life?
