We have our next (second) counselling session in about a week. One of the things that she said in the first one is that she can't say if she wants things to work for us or not.

I believe she has some mental health issues going on at the moment (diagnosed bipolar) but regardless, she is testing the waters, talking of seperation, talking about doing it sooner than the summer she originally gave to 'try to work things out'. Several times she's made a comment to me that she doesn't know if she can 'afford' to seperate.

At the next session, I was thinking of saying something to the effect that I don't want to be a 'last resort' - that if the only reason she wants to stay is financial, then she should leave.

I know that would push the issue, and possibly accelerate her schedule.

Is it a smart move? Or should I just continue to quietly document things, work on protecting me and the kids, and let her do her crazy.

While she has 'obsessed' over some rando guy she saw at her work, she has not (to the best of my knowledge) had more than about 10 words with him, so I think she is building an elaborate imaginary relationship with him. (she's done that before). I do NOT believe that she has actually cheated on me with him. I'm not stupid enough to think she WOULDN'T ever do that - I just don't think there has been opportunity.

She does have an elaborate fantasy how we will be a perfect family after seperation / divorce - just living in different houses, meeting for picnics, sunday dinners, family events with my parents / brothers. Being 'best friends'. (If things do fall apart, I won't be disabusing her of that fantasy untili AFTER all the paperwork is finalized)
