If you aren't being represented by an attorney, I don't see a downside. I dealt directly with my ex's attorney at first, acknowledged that I didn't have representation, and attended the meetings by myself.

If possible, check your local recording laws and record the whole thing. If you're in a one-party state, record the call. You have nothing to lose by listening. Just don't agree to anything and don't agree to sign anything. Practice "thank you for your time" and "that's good to know" and nothing more.

When you lawyer up again, your ex is going to have to pay her lawyer to repeat that call to get your lawyer up to speed.

So here's how I went, I told them anything should be in writing. If I said anything even if I verbally agreed to it, that I'd need to go over it with my lawyer before signing anything.

Assume anything they propose is leaning towards their interests not yours. Doing this can cut alot of the BS out of the way.

The lawyers can drag out alot of it, having 10 - conversations and each charging each of you over $300 for an hour on the phone for that 5 min. (mine said it was 1K but he was giving me a major discount of 2K) And that was over the custody stuff.

It doesn't hurt to listen/talk, but always preface it with nothing is binding. Never sign anything. And in the end get a copy and bring it to your lawyer.

I suggest you wait until you get your new lawyer so you don't somehow get yourself into a bad position

them suddenly wanting to talk now is very suspicious.

i suppose they can e-mail you their proposal but don't act on it without a lawyer.
