So when I moved out my stbxw and I were amicable. I left some items in our safe because, well, I thought they would be "safe" It was impractical to move the safe and I did not have a place to store it at my new location.

I have been asking to come by and pick up the stuff for months now and she always has an excuse that she is working or some other...b.s.

contents of the safe include my soc. sec. card and birth certificate and some heirloom items from family and some valuables. small amounts of cash and some collector coins. nothing over $400 The most important thing for me to retrieve are the documents and heirloom items. I don't really care about the small amounts of cash that was in there.

When I pressed her on this she offered to scan and email my documents. But I said I needed everything out. She said she had changed the locks for her new roommate and did not feel comfortable letting me get my contents out of the safe.

My thoughts are that she may have spent or sold some of the items and does not want me to open the safe. There is really no reason for her to withhold any of document items.

I realize I can have the police come and escort me to the house to retrieve the items, but I want to avoid doing that and perhaps have my attorney contact her instead.

I don't particularly enjoy dealing with our local p.d.

I realize this is quasi-criminal activity and I am wondering what kind of crime this constitutes and what recourse I may have here.

Has anyone else had experience with this?
