I thought I was screwed when it came to finances after the divorce. Just remember that it's just a temporary setback and you can always build up again. You saw one positive, not paying thousand of dollars in health insurance, If you tighten up for a few months and put that money towards building yourself up you'll be out of the fog in no time.

Hang in there, take one piece at a time, try to be flexible with your expenses.

Case in point: I stopped contributing to my 401k cause 1) i needed the cashflow to set up my life; 2) she was going to get 1/2 of my 401k anyway. That was a unilateral decision that I can just control at my own discretion, but I also didn't ask my lawyer if I can do it.

You might need to restart some of your capital building, but just live again like you're in college and it could work out. This is a rebuilding year.

If you think there is a chance that she will get the deductions for any children, then you should consider changing your withholding to single with no dependents right now. The IRS has online worksheets that can guide you. For me, this made my net take home pay lower, which was helpful during meditation when I could show I wouldn't continue to bring home as much as before. If you happen to get the benefit of having kids as dependents then you can change it back later. A good attorney should be able to advise on that.

I started my divorce with a very healthy investment portfolio and it was completely decimated in my divorce. When one or both parties are unreasonable it completely fucks everything up.

Assets typically start at a 50/50 split. Don’t concern yourself with those. Alimony is not a guarantee depending on your state and if your wife works. Always use alimony as a bargaining chip. Child support typically follows a guideline formula unless earnings are higher than a capped amount.

I’m going to sign the paperwork this Friday! She keep saying she wants alimony from me, but she acted like she’s the strongest woman on earth. I said what she had done, and I will not pay her a dime on alimony. I’m just sad that why men always get screwed in the end of the marriage. I tried to build this family, but she just want to screw around... I’m not sad, but felt very annoyed by the system that only siding woman.

Sorry maybe we have very different financial situations, so can you explain how your taxes have such a large impact on your finances? Mine generally come out pretty low for returns if you have your dependent exemptions right.

My paychecks went from near 2k to 300 dollars.... so , I had 600 a month and all of the household debt and my own new household..... 40 hour work weeks are a thing of the past....

If your alimony requirement is like most, it comes out of a state formula based on your last W2 gross. Taxes really don't factor in, unless your wife will negotiate with you.
