From the beginning to the end, it is nothing more than a business transaction. Unless there are kids involved, then its still a business transaction, to a point. All they (the courts) cared about was the money. How much you make, how much you spend, where you spend it, how much debt you have, what your retirement/401k/investments looks like, how much, if any real property you have, and how it all gets divided. Thats it. At least thats how I saw it while going thru my divorce. Just treat it like a business transaction.

I understand the frustration, but here's how it was explained to me, "you might be upset talking to your attorney or to the judge, and its justified, because divorce is a traumatic experience, but for the attorney and the judge, its Tuesday 11:30, and they're thinking about lunch."

Take a deep breath and think about the freedom you will have when you are done with the paperwork. If it were me I wouldn’t want her to fill it out or even help with it. My ex would try to fill it out in a way that would benefit her. Again, take a breath and maybe a shot of Jack Daniels and remember this is just a bump in the road and then after it will be a smooth ride.

Most of it can be filled by AI, you don't need a lawyer, can do it online and barely anything gets checked. That's how it is in most states

What’s the process in FL?

In my state (also in the southeast), the paperwork seems to be minimal. Or at least it CAN be, if you avoid going through discovery (which is an option if both parties agree).

All I’ve had to do so far is to give my attorney a list of our major assets, which are basically just the house, a couple of cars, and some retirement accounts. That and tell her what we owe on the cars and house. It took me maybe 30 minutes.

Theoretically I could’ve put that on my wife to do—she’s the one who filed for divorce. But I’ve always handled our finances, so it was easier for me to do it.
