Man weddings and that whole industry is a bunch of bull. I had to go to these different venues and she started telling me everything she wanted in a wedding and when I started running the numbers I was like holy moly if I don’t say anything we’re going to spend tens of thousands of dollars to essentially throw a party. I had to step up and set budgets and do an insane amount of research to get her a wedding she wanted while sticking close to a budget, and she stressed me out that whole freaking time even lashing out at me. The only thing I wanted was church involvement and I tried to clarify that are vows were the most important part. Looking back on it, I think she cared more about the wedding than the actual vows. At one point while we were figuring out separation she said she never wanted a wedding and would of been happy just going to a courthouse, i then had to remind her that I mentioned doing something simple like that but she insisted on having an event with all her friends and family, she didn’t really have much more to say beyond that. Honestly weddings historically used to be a small affair like a potluck and more shrouded in religious rituals. Now it just seems so commercialized and a governmental ritual, it’s kinda sickening. “Lets start our lives out in debt trying to impress others that will probably find something to judge anyways” and then the government involvement just seems predatory towards men, though I can understand why in some cases protection is needed and assets/debts should be proportionately dispersed and children should be top priority, the thought of alimony seems absurd though unless your like a multi millionaire with a high income. My unpopular opinion is becoming more and more that outside of people and their religious convictions weddings have become a commercialized glam show with a government contract. Better off just dating until common law marriage kicks in and celebrating at the Applebees. Seriously though I can’t believe how much people spend on this kind of stuff just for it to blow over and end in divorce.
