Probably those folks who think them "harmless" or "pathetic" haven't had a really good run in or exposure to one (or more) of them.

If one was harassing you, or your daughter, or your wife, I think your attitude would change.

I, for one, believe that they are NOT harmless; if not for the damage those wounded me do to others, then for the damage that they are doing to themselves.

Harm to others is harm. Harm to one's self is still harm.

It's because they are toxic.

Even very "tough" guys are often turned into manchildren who are terrified of emotional vulnerability by red/black pill.

Even if we discount all the damage done to men, the damage these guys are doing to women is immense. Just scroll through this subs history and you'll see women coming here to vet about their boyfriend or husband getting into RP content and becoming more and more abusive, narcissistic, and misogynistic.

The blackpill is even more directly harmful. Many of it's members idolize suicide and some have actually killed themselves over their nonsensical pseudoscientific ideology.

Speaking of which, conservative men aged 50+ have the highest rate of suicide of any demographic in the US. Chiefly because they can't live up to their own warped and impossible standards, and tend to refuse any mental healthcare. In 20-30 years these red pilled bros are likely going to be an even bigger wave of old men committing suicide for similar reasons.

If you feel like you're weak, find another way to build emotional strength. Stay the fuck away from these guys, their ideology, or anything even remotely similar.

A "bunch of pathetic guys" are likely to be unhealthy and together can reinforce each other in what they believe. I think that individually these people tend to be harmless, but the ideology to which they subscribe is problematic and increases the risk of violence. It's the echo chamber they are in which is dangerous and preventing them from getting better. These ideas are unhealthy (at times hateful/dehumanizing) and being exposed to people on a massive scale because of social media.

Most of the time it only fucks up their lives, but a non-zero percentage of people are going to get radicalized and act out. Incels are the most extreme and desperate of these men and most acts of mass violence by people within the manosphere come from incels. There is a real risk because people in this mindset can get a persecution complex. It's something that men in the manosphere have in common with extremists of all kinds and with mass shooters.

Some young people discover those spaces online and believe what they read there because they’re young and don’t know much about the real world. Then they start to feel like things are hopeless for them. But if they had never found those spaces and had just lived their lives they naturally would have started making more friends and dating.

They’re definitely not harmless - hurt men hurt women. Ideally, there should have been no Elliot or Alex. The best strategy is to nip this rotten plant in the bud so it doesn’t grow, like having good solid male role models for boys so they don’t fall into this bs.

Misogyny is alway dangerous to women. When men see women as objects to control, it leads to physical abuse, sexual assault, rape, financial abuse and, at worst, femicide.

I also want to point out that such behavior is self-defeating for men as well. Even if, at best, they are just “pathetic guys”, what a waste of a life that could have been spent in a more fulfilling way that contributed to society, where they were happier with themselves.

Well spreading hate is not harmless. Elliott rodgers and other incels and mass shooters are actually killing people
