I'm 23M, and on paper, things are going well: I'm doing a PhD in a foreign country, have hobbies/interests outside my work, take care of my physical (gym) and mental (therapy) health, and am actively social. As I interact with more people though, I've noticed subconscious stress-related behaviors: defensive/status-seeking language, rapid speech cadence, lowering of voice, increased rate/depth of breathing, closed-off body language.

Likely, these result from childhood trauma (socially conservative immigrant upbringing with excess emphasis on education/career) that I haven't been able to address until recently. But often times, these signal an arrogant or antagonistic attitude in social or romantic situations; though I intend nothing of the sort, it creates an initial trust barrier and many times discourages me from trying at all. Does anyone have tips/resources to deal with this problem, and become more likable and friendly?
