Hookup Culture: Real or Myth?

“Hook up culture” is nothing new. People have always hooked up.

Younger people are having less sex than previous generations. Probably because technology is having some effect on how people socialize.

It’s not “red pill” whatevr having an effect. Very few people know or care about that nonsense. It’s just for internet weirdos.

Everything about “men are not having sex but women are” is totally bullshit though.

What little effect there is can be explained by women generally dating men who are a few years older. But even with that, it’s not much of an effect. Women, in general, are not more promiscuous than men.

Why any of it would matter to an individual either way is mysterious. Like if only 50% of men were having sex (and I made that number up) I don’t know why you wouldn’t think, “I guess I’ll be one of the half that is having sex.”

It’s all such a waste of your time and energy. Just live your life, be a halfway decent person, treat other people like humans, and you’ll be good. It’s not rocket science.

I think it exists a little bit but not as much as the media says. Red pillers will say that many young women in their early 20s are very promiscuous and have already had over 50-100 sexual partners but I don’t think that’s the case lol source

The general consensus is that it's only real for the so called "promiscuous 10%" of men and women, who tend to be hooking up with one another...

Other than that most people (men and women alike) have been having less sex than previous generations.

Its a mix of both. We are seeing short and shorter relationships and a growing number who aren't having sex at all. This is likely to do with technology and people preferring short-term pleasures over long-term commitments. Just like relationships are shortening we are seeing the videos people are watching and things people are reading are shorter and shorter.

The important thing to understand is that there were people who were having casual sex all throughout human history. It is absolutely not more common today. It’s likely less common today.

I think different things can be true at the same time. Hookup culture is a real thing and definitely exists. Does that mean that everyone wants to/can participate in it? Definitely not. There definitely seems to be a growing loneliness epidemic that is caused by various factors. So yes, consequentially, younger people may be more sexless today relative to previously.
