My wife makes more than me and it fucking rules. I grew up poor, so did she. I thought I would always be poor. We are not poor. When we're both working we are probably in the top 10% of earners in Canada. But we're not both working, I got really sick last summer and had to stop work and focus on recovery, and it is so comforting to know I can just take the time to heal without worrying about us losing our condo or anything. My wife is like "I got you" and I know she does. Before this, especially when I lived in America, getting sick was like the end of the world.

You should absolutely go to school. To even consider not going just to purposely make less than a man to try to keep a relationship is, frankly, insane. IF that caused a rift in your relationship, that would be a sign from the heavens to ditch the asshole and find a decent man anyway.

My girlfriend makes more than me. She’s a lawyer and I’m a physical therapist. For the first 5 years she’d have made close to double what I did. I started my own business last year and she probably tripled me 🤣 but it’s evening out now. I’m also pretty good with money. I grew up poor so I can live light and save for things so we still do dinners, dates, holidays etc.

I’m with my partner because I like her. Her job is pretty irrelevant to me.

I suppose as long as you talk it through and don’t make an issue of it. It’ll be fine. Fact of the matter is when you look at university numbers etc, over the next 10-20 years, there’s going to be a lot more women equaling or out earning men. Add on the cost of living and unless you’re rich as fuck already, having a partner earn a good wage isn’t a bad thing.

Don’t stay with someone who is insecure about your success. My husband and I have been together 20 years. I’ve got a couple of degrees and he’s in the trades. He cheers me on all the way and I do the same for him. Sometimes he’s carried the finances. Sometimes I have. My circle tends to be PhDs, doctors and scientists. His is blue collar. He can hang with anyone. I can hang with anyone. It’s about confidence in yourself and supporting your partner. Don’t settle. It’s all possible.

The only reason a man is worried about making more money is if he wants control of the relationship. Their argument is always that she won't be submissive and that somehow making more money will make her think she is "in charge."

Basically, if you lost him for that reason it would be no loss at all.

My wife is the senior corporate payment processor of the Midwest region of the United States. She works for one of the world's biggest banks. I am self employed. I own a small manufacturing business, and I flat out refuse to pay myself more than my highest paid employee. My wife makes more money than me. I couldn't care less. We're a team. I out earn my husband. I'm proud of him and his achievements, as he is of mine. I never felt worried about earning more or less than him because he made me feel safe from the beginning.

We are not what we earn and you can't put a dollar sign on self worth.

My best friend makes like 3 times more than her SO and they are so happy together. He takes care of a lot of things in the house and pays like 30% of the mortgage of their house while she pays the rest. Their dynamic is awesome, they do a lot of traditional things as man and woman, but it's a facts she makes a lot more than him.

Repillers simultaneously scream about men getting all his money taken away in a divorce, but then make fun of men if a woman makes more than them. If they are so scared if divorce then they should marry a woman who is educated and makes good money. Hell if you’re a doctor and you two end up getting divorced, then he will be in for a payday.

Are there men who would get insecure about you making more than them? Yes, but your boyfriend doesn’t sound like one of them. Also, don’t anybody hold you back from wanting to become a doctor. That’s a great goal and if you want it, then do your best to get it.

Let's just review that; you were planning on giving up your life goals to maintain some bizarre social status quo that says that women shouldn't earn as much money as men. Does that honestly seem rational to you?

Lots of relationships work just fine with women earning more than men. It's not an issue unless he's some kind of misogynistic 1950s throwback who thinks a woman's place is the kitchen, not the workplace.

Go chase your dreams, nobody wants you to make yourself smaller for their sake. And if you somehow end up separated from your current boyfriend and find yourself dating someone who has an issue with it, you can know that it's their problem, not yours.

This applies to me similarly, my wife makes more than me and has a college degree and I have no interest in returning (to college). College may not fit well for everyone but as long as you are both content with each other that’s all that matters.

You have nothing to worry about. In my opinion. If he is worried about you making more money, then he isn’t your boyfriend. Traditional values aren’t relevant anymore in the world, the best ones are the ones that resonate between you and him. Besides, men that obsess over making more money than their wife tend to be abusive
