There’s definitely something to be said about using men as the yardstick with which everyone is measured. It’s a big reason why “strong female characters” in media hit wrong; they are mapping a female character over the framework of a typical male character and slapping boobs abs a catsuit on it, calling it feminist.

Making feminism into libfem girl-boss feminism also helps distract from much needed class solidarity (in the US especially). This is why feminism was acquired and repackaged by corporate America.

And in the same vein, a woman can do all the things a man does and still not be paid as much and not nearly as highly regarded. Especially black women.

Eh I feel kinda iffy about this. I do agree though that women ‘acting like men’ shouldn’t be the only ones worthy of praise.

Like there’s a whole define on womanhood and there’s labels on everything.

If you don’t wear makeup, don’t cook that well, not a housewife, wear masculine clothing instead of feminine, don’t shave, etc. it doesn’t make you any less of a woman. It doesn’t mean you’re acting like a man either. You’re literally just being human and even if you’re not ‘feminine or ladylike enough’ you’re still worthy of respect.

Women should just be able to be themselves without getting hated on for it. But sadly I doubt that’ll be the norm anytime soon. Especially on Reddit. It’s concerning with how many redditors hate on teen girls.

Although she has some good points, I respectfully disagree with the implications.

Girl-boss and general badassery in terms of career and strength isn't "manly" or in any way going against femininity. Men having a monopoly on being respected for those qualities is mysogyny. Yes we want money and power and aren't afraid to go and get it. ⚔️ Being a girl boss means you have the resources to leave and never take shit.

Traditionally feminine roles like housewife should in theory be respected, but women who put themselves in a dependent position get screwed by men who take advantage of them. So no, it's not a wise choice ever.

What exactly are the things we are particularly better suited to do due to the nature of being women? Housework, nUrTUrINg, cultivating a positive atmosphere? 😊💀 Those are things any human being should do.

Im not sure I agree with this. This kinda sorta sounds like TradFem™ Lite talk.

The biggest issue is that she doesnt provide any actual examples to counter the "girl boss feminism" model. Id like specific examples on how she thinks women should properly obtain power in capitalistic society. What does that look like, to her? And is there any proof that it works better ... or, at least, works at all?

...and the opposite of that is true as well lol. She's young and a student, so she's probably not aware that working women and women CEOs, especially the ones with kids, get more flack on average. Id actually argue that being married with children automatically gives women a form of social currency thats not even extended to the most powerful unmarried/childfree woman.

I also think a lot of people have to be careful with the "sToP aCtInG lIkE mEn" "men and women are dIfFeReNt" mantras. Women are all wired differently too. Women with dominant thinking cognitive functions, in the jugnian sense, are not the "norm", but we exist, and often have a harder time fitting in with both women and men. And we're often masculinized. Feminism was always appealing to me because it was more accepting of non-traditional women. But this type of talk is a bit regressive on that front.

I do agree about the Arya vs Sansa thing, thats something that annoyed the hell out of me on that show. People were SO mean to Sansa because she "only cared about getting married" forgetting that she was twelve.

But lets not forget that Arya and Sansa both win at the end, and become fucking independent, powerful women. Neither of them end up with men, or children, and Id argue that Sansa ends up with more power than Arya. (Now Brienne on the other hand...)

Anyways, she's well spoken and this is always an interesting point of view and a good topic of discussion.

This is a short sighted analysis. It’s the internalized misogyny for me that she thinks Aria was like a man with her accomplishments. This girl is all over the place and just so wrong in so many ways I can’t even begin to break it down.

She almost had a couple of good points but it went downhill soon after.
