I am noticing a pattern that I don't want to admit because religion has been a great source of pain in my life for many years. The pattern is this:

"When men make themselves their own God's, they go to shit. When men submit themselves to some imaginary male God, they're quality of conduct usually improves."

Some theories as to why this may be the case:

  • Submitting to a woman emasculates them
  • Submitting to a living/mortal man also emasculates them because they feel like they are losing an imaginary sexual competition
  • Imaginary sky Daddy gives men a safe place where they can truly submit fully without fear of emasculation. Imaginary sky Daddy can't emasculate them because they are always in control because imaginary sky Daddy was personally constructed by that man's imagination.
  • Religious texts give an easy out-of-the-box value system that men can conform to without putting in much effort. Misogyny/sexism/homophobia put aside, most religions highlight values and virtue that every human being should aspire to.
  • Most religions call for men to master their sexuality in one way or another leading them to be more likely to despise porn and other forms of sexual degeneracy

There are definitely some atheist men who figure out a way to accomplish these things without religion but they are few and far between because doing so requires more effort than subscribing to a tried-and-true way of living with a community of people ready to welcome you into the club at any time.
