I used to do some modeling back when I was younger but way more insecure. The number of times the makeup artists acted like they’d performed some miracle on me was so demoralizing. I look back and I was pretty with or without makeup. To make such a big stink like they turned an ogre into a Princess was honestly not flattering but frustrating.

As for awkward stages. Dear lord my middle school years were ROUGH. My nose was too big for my face and I didn’t have a handle on my unibrow/ mustache yet.... not to mention my choice in clothing. Thank god I outgrew all that. Lol.

There’s this great scene in the movie Ghost World where the main character is at a bar. Her glasses are off and men are hitting on her, making her uncomfortable. She puts on her thick, black rimmed glasses and BOOM, instant male attention shut-off valve.

It resonated with me because I have the same kind of glasses too. And it’s so true. If I wear contacts, makeup, fake eyelashes, dresses and curl my hair, I notice the stares. But in my normal glasses with my usual no-fuss look? Nothing.

That just shows how society is that people have to change how they look just to get respect and attention. It's the same society that casts women out and ingores them for being 'too old'.

I got some extensions, put on makeup and suddenly I was getting attention from males. My acne never disappeared, but suddenly that it wasnt that obvious anymore I was treated differently. The first time I could go out without makeup and my bad skin showing was when I turned 19 and completely didnt give a shit about what anyone thinks of me. While I honestly dont care at all, I still notice that I get treated differently when I wear more or less or even no makeup at all. Women are nicer, like ALOT nicer, when I dont wear makeup or just a tiny bit. Males try to get a date no matter how I look like. If they dont want anything sexual from me they are alot nicer when I wear heavier natural makeup. Also I noticed that I got excellent service when they see that I have money. Even wearing a sweatpants and an oversized hoodie doesnt matter as long as I have designer accessories and drive a fancy car. So basically people are mean usually and their opinion should never matter. Especially male attention is worthless.

Yes! Except sometimes now when I’m going out of the house alone and don’t want to be bothered, I reverse it and put on my glasses and wear baggy clothes. Sometimes it works, sometimes not lol

Yes, at 34! I never cared much about my looks. Then I made a really good HVW female friend who always looks adorable / beautiful. She showed me the ropes with makeup (still can't get damn eyeliner right thoigh), I got my teeth whitened, eyebrows threaded, go regularly for spa and sauna sessions (when money permits!), bought new clothes, am finally losing the weight I gained from being with my last ex, and overall feel great and my confidence has gone way up. Next up - eyelash extensions?

Yep. I wore (minimal) makeup and did something other than a ponytail the other day, for the first time. Outside of my normal friend group (who are absolute sweethearts that don't care either way) it was all anyone could talk about.
