As I was watching the film I thought about how obsessive men can be. With their hobbies, work, or another living thing. He literally LIVED for this octopus, going out there everyday and thinking about her when he was out of the water. I think this obsessive tendency can result in great things (inventions, productivity, etc) but it's unhealthy (video game/porn addiction, working yourself to death) and a little scary. I still loved it though.

I've only watched the trailer but all I could think was why does he keep touching her when she clearly wants to get away from him? Oh, because he's a man.

Thanks for the heads up, I literally added it to my watchlist yesterday because I've been told octopuses are really fascinating and smart and was eager to learn more about them. Just watched the trailer and the narrator comes off as really pretentious and self absorbed so I probably won't be giving it a shot.

If you want a good documentary about sea wildlife I recommend Blackfish, it's about aggression in killer whales that are raised in captivity and has a lot of actually thoughtful and empathetic inputs from people who worked with them. It also made me cry a bit.

Fun fact! "Octopus" is a greek word (literally "8 feet") and the correct pluralization is "Octopodes" per greek pluralization!

"Octopi" (latin pluralization) or "Octopuses" (english pluralization) are both technically inaccurate, though I still use them from time to time anyway 🤷‍♀️🐙🤷‍♀️
