Is anyone else annoyed with the internet’s response to the Tiger King documentary?

Yeah I know. My classmates and I all watched it. I also hate the fact that Joe Exotic uses a blow up doll to represent Carole. He beats it, shoots it, and sticks a dildo in its mouth. It's interesting that he does this even though he is gay - he knows the way sex is used to demean women.

But no talk amongst my class about the fact Doc runs a cult and coerces all these women into being his "wife", or that Joe took these men (one of whom was 19) who needed a place to belong and used drugs to keep them compliant as his husbands. We just argue over whether Carole Baskin killed her husband.

I think it's pretty obvious her husband was an abuser and he was definitely a serial cheater. The gas station he picked her up from when they met was in a part of town--lets just say the people around that part know what women are doing walking around gas stations at night. It's nothing but drugs and hookers. She was definitely being turned out. He found a vulnerable young woman experiencing sexual trauma and poverty, adopted her as his side piece, and then once he married her he started screwing around on her. She's had a rough life and frankly having him killed was a smart move.

Unpopular opinion I am not so sure Carole killed him I got the vibe Don was involved in drug trafficking or other illegal business dealings. I had an alternative theory that he pissed off somebody in his shady world and got disappeared. Carole was deliberately framed as unlikable. Never mind that Joe Exotic fed his so called husbands drugs to stay with him did not give a shit when one of his workers lost part of their arm and likely drained his mother dry financially. Despite this he is framed as "fun" crazy. Doc Antle is a fraud and a hucksters and has some weird ass Jim Jones cult thing going on.

The only reasonable people were the worker who lost part of an arm, the naive nerdy campaign manager and even the Florida drug dealer guy was almost normal.

Despite this everybody hates Carole. Any time a woman is doing her own thing or not conforming to expectations they are hated. Don't get me wrong I found her very condescending about the volunteers who worked at her place especially when she admitted basically not knowing anybody who worked for her until they had been there five years. I kinda wondered if that nerdy dad pants husband she has now married her for her money. I think I am around her age no way I could have sex with him. I was turned off by Carole but did not hate her.

And they act like joe was some great tiger owner. Like nah he couldn't afford them and he was breeding them too quickly. Tigers live for a long time so what happened to all of those cubs???

I don’t think the internet is glossing that over at ALL. A lot of the comments I’ve seen have been about grooming, coercion, and taking advantage of both young women and young men.

The internet has cherry picked Carole from this story for the same reason reddit hates on us so much: blatant misogyny. “Fucking bitches.”

I’m finding it annoying too, especially as a conservationist, but, like... par for the course. she’s a woman. Of course she’s going to receive the literal only vocal backlash.

I was physically nauseated at all of the men in that documentary.

Antles was grooming young girls and basically led a cult, Exotic exploited naive young men, Carol is the world's biggest Pickmeisha other woman around, I became enraged when that Jeff or whatever his name piece of shit was showing pictures of the hot nanny they hired and made that snide comment about after the baby being born his wife was gonna lose weight.

Honestly, it reinforced my general distaste for men and fear about how many exploitative, garbage men exist in the world.

YES. I have been fuming in silence about this! I listened to the whole story on the Wondery podcast (I think it’s titled Joe Exotic) and it is NOTHING like what the docu-series portrayed. Needless to say I was baffled by all the people supporting Joe after the Doc came out. Overall, I think it’s a serious case of the filmmakers having an idea of what they wanted people to think. And most people fell for it: hook. line. sinker.

I didn't see one comment on Jeff lowe. I found him to be the most repulsive. Especially the part where his pregnant wife is talking about their baby that's on the way and he's talking about the "hot nanny" he wants to hire. He's the definition of LVM.
