The first time this happened to me I cried. I had just been convinced that my caution around men was unwarranted/unfair or sexist (lol) by a few friends and I decided to take a chance and go on casual dates. When I was an escort, we had a system in place for vetting men we called "referrals".

Basically, when a guy you hadn't seen before wanted to book time with you, you asked for his referrals, which was a list of other escorts he had seen within a memorable amount of time and their contact info.
