I’m lenient with mistakes so as long as they’ve learned and held themselves accountable to more than the appropriate degree. But just recently, I was on the phone with my best friend heartbroken and upset as hell that the guy who I thought we had a good thing going on ended it out of nowhere and left me entirely blindsided.

While my best friend was compassionate and empathetic as per usual, her boyfriend was being a soulless piece of shit. He told her that the dude was most likely just playing me out of boredom and that the explanation he gave me for ending things was almost like the blueprint for men when they want to play the good guy card. If he had just stopped there, I would have taken this as a harsh realization but he went further and added, “I used to do that to other girls. You don’t know what it’s like to lead them on and then just leave them. The high is so good.”

My best friend almost felt proud that she was the chosen one. I made her put me on speaker so I could tell him, “I wouldn’t know what that feels like because I’m not a piece of shit.”

We’ve all made mistakes and hurt other people one way or another. We can’t change the past but the least we can do is admit that we were shitty and that the people we hurt did not deserve our shittiness at all. Then we make amends and hold ourselves accountable. We don’t shrug it off.

If my future boyfriend were to admit this without remorse, I would break up with his ass. If you respect women, you respect ALL of them. Not just the one you’re dating.
