I was at a wedding over the weekend for an old school friend and one of the bridesmaids was an old close friend of mine I'll call her B. A bit of history, B is married to a guy C I introduced to her when we were friends. I had a big crush on C and I think he may have liked me (during my embarrassing pick me days, please go easy on me I've changed! Haha) but nothing ever happened between us. He had to choose between us and chose her, so I moved on and ended the friendship with both as it hurt too much. Also, she was not a very good friend and was very self absorbed.

They get married etc, I finish uni, move around the country with my new well paying job, change jobs several times, date around, travel, enjoy my 20's and level up. Now I'm 28 and 2 years ago I met a man I am happy with and will see where it goes.

So my boyfriend and I go to this wedding and we see this couple. I chat politely with both B and C, and introduce them go my boyfriend. B is nice and we catch up, but C is very moody and rude. My bf is a little taken aback as he's very outgoing and likes to meet people. I say don't bother it's his personality and he's a bit of an asshole. This boring ass, I-don't-want-to-be-here attitude went on all night and I could tell B was embarrassed by it. After many drinks we were all going to the photo booth and taking photos together. My bf wants to get a cute set of photos of just us so after this I notice B starts crying and I take her away from the situation. She tells me C never wants to take photos with her ever cos he hates them. But she wants to have a few to remember good times and when they have fun. I asked if she was happy and she said now that we have the dog in happier. It honestly sounds like a miserable existence.

They got married young at 22 and I think she was just desperate for affection and attention that she married her first boyfriend. I am so glad I dodged a bullet and did not end up like her. I think this is a great example of why we vet and drop guys that give us red flags. C sounds like a miserable man and as a result B has a miserable life. On the other hand, I am in a fantastic position earning good money, my bf treats me so well and we get along well (not counting my chickens before they hatch but I'm happy with it so far), I have a good social life and hobbies. This is why it'd important to build yourself up and keep high standards for who we date. It's been a long road for me, but I feel I'm getting where I'd like to be.
