My friend taught me a neat trick. When some loser says "smile" you can turn to them and say "say something funny" or "ok amuse me". After a couple of seconds of their stunned silence make a buzzer noise with a thumbs down, or just say "dissapointing" and walk away. It's from a sketch but I can't remember which one.

I work retail, and i heard that many times. They say "you should smile" and i ask "why?" And usually they say "because you work on retail you should smile!" And i respond with "smile for you? They don't pay me for smiling". And usually they go away. I'm not your clown don't tell me to smile

Last Christmas I had a friend die from cancer. A few days later a coworker called me so I stopped my work to walk over to him so he can ask me why I never smile. I explained to him that it really isn't his business because first off no one goes out of their way to do unnatural gestures as they work and secondly, my friend just died. I felt so stupid because of the way I explained myself and he really couldn't care less.
