My boundaries are mine. They are my limits. They are "if X happens, I will do Y." They are self-definition, how I distinguish myself from the other person in the relationship. Because only I can think/say/do my thoughts/words/actions.

Boundaries are not emotional lassos by which I try to get others to do what I want them to do.

Boundaries = when someone is abusive, I end my involvement with the abuser. Because if they were willing & able, they would treat me with kindness. My thoughts, words, and actions are all in alignment.

Emotional lasso = stating for the nth time how I want/need to be treated (words) while persisting in my denial of the situation (thoughts) and not doing anything differently (actions). Thoughts/words/actions are mismatched.
