Heavily disagree with this guy. The only men who message social media profiles are fuckboys and creepers. Do you want a bf who makes a habit of looking for hot women on his feed to dm? Hell no.

This is the experience of most women I know. High quality men also don’t really spend a lot of time trawling social media for interesting profiles. If anything I’ve met more high value men off dating apps than any number of guys 20 years older trying to discreetly message me on FB without their wife knowing, and my profiles are clean. The vast majority are low, low value.

You forgot that you can filter out men who don’t fit your criteria on dating apps, so if someone is seeing a lot of bad matches it might be that they’re not paying for the app.
High value men in my experience are not time wasters as they’re too busy building careers. The difference between a dating app and social media is the number of tools available with which to signal compatibility and interest (as well as filter out undesirables). It takes much more time to hash that out over social media profiles. With a few swipes or likes the man can indicate what exactly he’s interested in, and be presented with a variety of choices in very few steps as well as much more focused information. It’s simply more efficient than scrolling past a feed or perusing your social media profile (which is integrated in most apps anyway in the form of a gallery). And to high value men efficiency matters. They may use social media but IME if it’s not to engage people professionally or serve a purpose in advancing their lives they spend less time on it than average people do.
Social media is time consuming -because it is designed to keep you engaged - (hence many career centric men using it only sparingly). There are also regional factors in play as in most major cities a majority of young professionals use apps for dating. This is less so the further you get from urban centers (everyone I talk to who says there’s a stigma doesn’t seem to live in a mega city or tech center). Other factors include: a person’s ELO score or desirability ranking (in some apps), social media circles, location, and which app you’re using as different apps tend to have slightly different demographics. These factor HEAVILY into your matches and success. There is no one size fits all approach to finding men on apps. It is very much situational and region dependent, and where some women fail others may be successful.
