This is the reddit post I'm referring to.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Healthygamergg/comments/1nrdxu2/what_is_going_on_with_dr_k/
The content is this. The OP wants to know why Dr K, when talking about men's issues, doesn't mention the whole "Men are the ones who created the system that causes men's issues in the first place." Basically the patriarchy (which you already know how I feel about this term).
One of the comments mention that men have egos and we get defensive when they bring it up. One of the users mentions this "The goal is to work on these men’s mental health not to speak pure contextually full truth at all times."
What I interpret is their truth is that the patriarchy causes these issues, but that's not something to bring up to them and instead focus solely on addressing their mental health issues.
Why is this important to bring this up? This tells me society is catching onto the fact we don't like this term and the narrative that comes with it (for good reason) and some men would shut off from the conversation once they hear certain terms and narratives, so now they're trying not to do that.
Now I'm someone who's currently seeing a therapist. Part of a therapists job is to not inject their views or politics onto the client and instead help them discover their own way of solving their issues. This in itself I have no problem with.
But one thing we have to remember is we live in increasing polarizing times. That means therapists themselves may take a side, even if they don't bring that to the political side. Hell, there were issues of therapy being influenced by woke culture which I believe makes many men adamant of getting therapy. Each side is trying to increase influence and power, and subtlety is how they're going about it.
I've placed this in ChatGPT and here are some responses that stick out to me.
"You stress the importance of validating men’s experiences of dismissal before layering on broader social context, which aligns with therapeutic communication principles (start with empathy and validation)."
“If the goal is to reach men who are struggling, then validating their sense of dismissal may be more effective than presenting the full systemic truth immediately.”
I'm making this post to let people know to be cautious of this kind of talk, as it may be a strategy to work past your defenses and inject you with ideology. Mainstream leftist especially are shills when it comes to this and think the end justifies the means.
I'm not dismissing their overall point. Men with mental health issues do need therapy, society does dismiss men's issues, and validating and empathizing with their experiences is the first genuine step. What I'm saying is becareful when after they validation and empathizing, they start putting certain narratives in your head.
Therapy sessions requires you to be vulnerable and build trust with your therapist, so once you start giving them your trust, you're more likely to be susceptible to their ideology.
This is how the redpill got to certain men. They use their vulnerability to bring men to their side despite their toxic ideology. The same thing can and will happen here, so be vigilant.
