Gynocentrism underlies how we look at other countries and women's suffering sells the news. Men's suffering doesnt matter and gets no mention.

Men's problems are not unique in different areas across the globe, every single man in every single country faces similar problems on a daily basis. We are exploited universally by our countries, and our boys are equally exploited and harmed. In countries with more developed economies and "equality" we find that feminism has eliminated much of the social contracts benefiting men for this exploitation; it has given women the same benefits as men without the same requirements for exploitation, and once again (to use a cliché,) leaves men holding the bag.

Thanks for mentioning this. A lot of people don't understand the true plight of men globally.

I would say it’s more accurate that everyone is oppressed men and women included. Not that women are not oppressed.

Generally I think when MRAs talk about women being oppressed in 3rd world counties they are contrasting it to first world countries. Basically all of the forms of oppression you mentioned for men with the exception of child labor still occur in the first world but the issues facing women in third world countries no longer exist/are very rare.

This shows significant improvement in women’s rights but none in men’s which is important to the context this is usually brought up in where feminists advocate for women’s rights in first world countries.

Child marriage is not a unique problem for women and girls. There are tens of million of child grooms around the world.

I mean, I agree that men in the developing world have unique problems that women don't have, but I feel like I'd definitely rather deal with the problems men have. It depends on WHICH country to be sure, but let's be real: in a lot of developing countries women are either rarely allowed to leave the house or they have to vet everything with a male relative. Like, when there are severe limits on basic autonomy...

I have a lot of family from South Asia, and my casual but very accute observation is that the woman are much, much, much happier to be in the West than the men due to gender equality issues. I'm all for supporting men's issues, but I think there's a good reason why women's rights became an issue first. I suspect a lot of people will disagree with me.

I hear what you're saying, and I've said the same kind of thing in the past. That being said, just because men are oppressed in those nations doesn't mean women aren't. Some places are very egalitarian in that they oppress everyone.

I will say that India stands as an example where I feel in many cases that women are far less oppressed than men, but there are still some things that are quite oppressive towards women when it comes to cultural traditions that haven't fully faded.

I've never cared for the idea of seeing who is more oppressed. The right amount of oppression is 0, and any more than that should be dealt with. I'm not talking what western feminists call oppression like man spreading or cat calling. I'm talking about legitimate human rights violations on the basis of class membership.

This instantly made me think back to that Nigerian boy who committed suicide because of being falsely accused of rape on Twitter. And it made me think of the problem with men in India and the amount of boys that where murdered from Boko Haram but the girls kidnapped got more media attention and support.

Thankyou so much for speaking out on this. Male issues in the developing world is a huge problem that gets unnoticed. Hell it's like modern day feminists in the West complaining about the problems they face and calling it oppression while women and girls are having nightmarish circumstances in the Middle East.

The argument is used to deride the concerns of western women as petty compared to the concerns of third world women. Not to deride the concerns of third world men. We already know the people that we are telling this to already don't care about men's concerns, regardless of western or third world men, so that's a non-starter. It's to deflate the legitimacy of their argument that they as western women somehow have it terrible, and that by railing against their comparably miniscule "oppression" under the guise of "the cause of women" is nonsensical as third world women have it considerably harder than they do.
