This post is meant to be a little bit thought-provoking. I know that the issue of kinkshaming definitely affects both genders, but I wanted to talk about one particular "type" of kinkshaming that seem to affect men disproportionately. And I want to bring it up because I feel like it isn't talked about much and because I feel like this type of kinkshaming is accepted, even among people who otherwise condemn kinkshaming.
And that is shaming men who prefer to date/have sex with virgins. This certainly fits the Wiktionary definition of kinkshaming. It's a sexual preference that certainly doesn't harm anyone (unlike, say, paedophilia). But as far as I've noticed, in progressive societies this preference is viewed very negatively and often mocked and insulted. Yet generally the left-wing/progressive view is that people should be allowed to have and express all kinds of sexual (or non-sexual) preferences and desires.
What are your thoughts on this?

That is definitely kinkshaming, maybe even classism ("basement dwelling" obviously targets lower class people).

This is debatable of course, but I wouldn't call this "shaming". You wouldn't say that someone preferring tall men is shaming short men (or calling them 'inferior' or something like that).

This is shaming of course. But there is a leap between "I prefer virgins." and "Women with sexual experience are impure." It is similar to the leap between "I prefer tall men." and "Short men are inferior."
I don't know about that ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Height_discrimination
Yeah, I've seen the Reddit posts making fun of women who put that in their dating app profiles, but I don't think there's much real opposition to women having height preferences.
Yeah, in this way having a preferrence based on height is even worse because you can do nothing about your height. But you can change your virginity status (albeit only once and only from virgin to non-virgin).

Wait, I just thought of another reply (I said this was a thought-provoking topic).
What if the preference is based not on purity, but on personal values. As in "I want to date someone for whom sex is so important that they wait until marriage." It's completely OK to have a dating preference based on personal values / beliefs (e.g. "I won't date racists." or "I only date Jews."). Some people have the belief that sex is something sacred and should only be done with someon very special. If someone wants to only date virgins, they are basically saying that they want to avoid people who don't have this belief - people for whom sex doesn't have the special importance (promiscuous people).

Yeah, but isn't this stereotyping a little bit? "It usually goes hand-in-hand with ... " doesn't seem like a good reasoning to me.

That's a weird argument. I mean, if everyone was gay, the society would quickly collapse too, but we don't condemn being gay.
Ah, OK, so you're worried about normalizing it, making it widespread. Well yes, sure, that makes sense. But I don't think that this particular "kink" will ever be widespread. My guess is that it's continuously becoming less and less popular (which might be one of the reasons why it's now OK to shame people for it), though your opinion might be different. I don't think that by not kinkshaming men for preferring to date virgins, it will become somewhat widespread. There's plenty of advantages to dating people with sexual experience!
Yes, of course! But if a woman prefers to date tall guys, would you shame her for it? You might think that she's superficial, but the society more-or-less accepts it. But this is different for guys who prefer to date virgins. That's what I have a problem with.

Prove paedophilia harms anyone. We're told all day everyday that it's the worst thing in the world, but it may just be ground zero for the modern assault on all male sexuality.

What truth? The truth that you ridicule people for their sexual preferences? Yes, we don't like that.

Preference = what someone prefers
If someone prefers some kink, than that is their sexual preference. It's just definitions, so it doesn't matter much in the big picture, but this is what it is.

OK, I suppose I didn't know what is a sexual preference before.
However, I didn't compare those two anywhere. The term "kinkshaming" covers both kinks and sexual preferences. It would be less confusing if there was both "kinkshaming" and "sexual-preferences-shaming" to distinguish the two cases.
