Smart guy. These people are clueless.
[–]hl100orsmth42 points43 points44 points (0 children) | Copy Link
So many actual idiots. Actually, all of the comments were idiotic.
Even though OP confirms her boyfriend is basically a great guy who just doesn't want to get married.
And he is right based on the objective reality around us.
Isn't it scary how delusional these people are?
[–]ideserveall14 points15 points16 points (0 children) | Copy Link
"Mysogynic" is just another word for "reasonable".
[–]tower-rounder 76 points77 points78 points (3 children) | Copy Link
This is one of the OP's comments
Even if there were 999 comments that said he's right, OP will still look for that 1 comment to justify what she wanna do.
That hamster wheel started to spin boys.

“maybe he just doesn't want to marry ME because I'm not the right one for him.”
And here we see one of the core problems in our society/culture. The idea that people have bought in to of the “soul mate”. The “one”. The happily ever after fairy tale.
[–]Diogeneplz120 points21 points22 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Haha he even said there wasn't a "one" for him. Good fucking mate.

I've used this to keep the interest of a girl and give her a challenge "I'm not really looking for a relationship, but if the right girl came along, yeah I would consider it."

Incentives don't have anything to do with your motives or feelings. The system heavily incentivizes screwing the guy over completely.
Would you play on a game show where your S/O got money for shocking you?
Yeah, true love might keep her from doing it. But why play the game? Why agree to a set of incentives that rewards her for hurting you? It's not about whether or not she's a good person. It's about how the system is set up.
[–]spiesvsmercs7 points8 points9 points (0 children) | Copy Link
And even if they decide they won't shock you now, they have the option of shocking you decades in the future if things change.
Why put yourself in that situation?
[–]Sir_manalot1 point2 points3 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Any women who loves her man wouldn't put him.in such a compromising spot though.
Why does she need to put his life at risk?

Update: got my replies deleted for arguing that he's NOT a misogynist.

Comments get/treated as deleted on r/relationships after a certain downvote threshold. Sub is a cancer hive mind of women.

I've read your reply and I am really thankful for your opinion. I wanted to adress every single comment and saw that a lot were deleted and replying wasn't possible as well.

I do hope you understand that the legal system is biased overwhelmingly against men. It's not wrong to consider the consequences even though it depends on how much he trusts your thinking. Keeping that in mind, you've got yourself a loving boyfriend who cares for not only you but also his own long term future......now it's upto you to accept that deal or have an expensive wedding with a beta only to be disappointed later in your life. Good luck

He could be the perfect man but since he doesn't want to sign a contract that legally allows her to ruin his life, he is now literally worse than Hitler ...

I started reading the replies there and my IQ started dropping sharply. "Let's break this down!"... Had to close it.

Interesting that almost 99% of the comments say he's a misogynistic POS. No wonder that if you refuse to pay women money in a marriage it's co sidered a felony by the law (under financial abuse)
[–]user_miki11 points12 points13 points (1 child) | Copy Link
I was always puzzled how women bring love in marriage that is legal binding contract. If you love you can stay without that piece of paper. The problem is power the power that contract gives you over the other person.
Another issue I see comments for that women that say he is comfortable like that, and he want to keep her around for sex.
So marriage that piece of paper is supposed to take away your comfort and to receive less sex so before marriage was a fake and after comes the reality to bite you in the ass.So what really this paper will change for 2 people that love each other as they say .Again the balance of power is changed, not the supposed "love".
I believe many women want marriage faster because they cannot keep that girlfriend mask forever they want to be normal as they are, not faking it waiting to be proposed. After that they can be relieved and drop the mask as they got the power over that man.
[–]SamsAdvice1 point2 points3 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Yet she is using sex as an incentive for marriage, but doesn't want him to just want sex. If she was so awesome in other ways, she wouldn't need to offer sex.

If you love him, you should be happy being in a relationship long term w/o signing a contract.
[–]SamsAdvice1 point2 points3 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Love a person in a way that makes them feel free.
Contracts contradict this

The question for me is why her desire to be married is more important than his desire not to be? His reasoning is that he can be screwed over during a divorce, her reasoning is that its tradition. Which if those is the most stupid? Also, fuck those saying that hes wrong because it shows that he doesn't trust her. All of those people that get divorced every year got married thinking that they wouldn't and trusting each other. When money is involved people get crazy, and that's only amplified by the hurt feelings during divorce.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points (1 child) | Copy Link
Maybe I have worded it incorrectly in the original post. My problem is not that he doesn't want to get married. My rethinking has its roots in the reason why. Maybe you guys could give me more insight about it: Why keeping a relationship if he clearly isn't trusting me.
[–]MgtowAutumn1 point2 points3 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Because there is literally no reason for him to get married and only negatives. Why is this so hard to understand? Nothing about his life is improved by a marriage. Even if he thinks you’re a goddess and would never do anything wrong, there’s still NO REASON. The only reason I’ve ever heard is saving a few hundred on taxes, as if that offsets the 30k spent on the wedding. If something has no benefit at all and a .1% of failing (it’s more like 60%) why would he ever do it? Basic logic.
All the comments are so funny. He doesn’t trust you, he’s a misogynist, blah blah blah. Simple thought experiment: he wants you to swallow a pill that has a 60% chance of making you sick and does nothing beneficial, but he really likes the idea of you taking this pill because it means you trust him. Obviously not a perfect analogy but why would you ever swallow this pill? Everyone acts like he’s crazy in that thread for minimizing risks with zero benefits.

I legitimately thought this was about me. Me and my GF are 22 and we've had this same discussion with the same outcome.

So tempted to post there that this is a simple fact - if relationships collapse, and 4 out of 10 do, then the primary provider is the one who is platonically screwed. So it is a valid concern, one that a prenup will not always cover. The boyfriend sounds like a purple piller...

Fucking awful comments in that thread. The projection from the women there... stopped reading when one was talking about him having a "backup plan". That's what 99% of women have, and 2% of men.

My new rule is Easy, you want to Marry me, the Woman pays me a Dowry, $500k deposit to the Cayman Islands /or some other bank outside the USA that they can never touch or see ever again, this is my Security that if you Divorce rape me in the Future, I can recover financially. If the Female cannot pay the Fee, then no Marriage. I am worth that much in resources, actually More..

In case you want to toss out the BS excuses everyone else provided, and maybe try to understand where your boyfriend is coming from.
Marriage is literally a lose-lose situation for men. For some reason we're denigrated by society when we decide we don't want to chance it and play that game.
[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points (2 children) | Copy Link
Yeah right, if we got divorced he would actually benefit, because I earn more and bought more things for us. However, too-cool-to-be-a-feminist-bois we are still together so everything's fine right?
[–]MC_A-ron0 points1 point2 points (0 children) | Copy Link
So if he has so much to gain from marrying you, why doesn't he want to? Might be time to do some introspective thinking instead of spewing the same illogical bullshit. 🤷♂️
Either way, I could care less. Enjoy!
[–]MgtowAutumn0 points1 point2 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Everything’s not fine because he’s still dealing with a bitch who looks to a bunch of strangers on the internet to agree with her that his reasonable opinion is invalid. You’re going to simmer about this and reflect on the horde of women agreeing with you, and use it as leverage any time you’re upset. If anyone I knew looked for life advice based on what REDDITORS tell them I would distance myself immediately
