You'd be more free in many ways, less stress at work, less consequences if you want time off. I've been in jobs where days off is not an option, and you just have to make up the workload anyway. Compare that with my current job where if I'm sick, I'll take an extra day off after I recover, make sure I'm looking after myself and I don't need the money anyway. Feels good (for me).

Exactly been doing the job hunt and the biggest hindrance is fact that I don't want 60-80hrs a week. I interview well and and pretty much always on board then we get to the well we've been working 60s but if you want I bet could let you do 80hrs a week.
They look at me puzzled when I am not thrilled. Like what you actually want a life outside of work.

If you make $50,000 per year and are foolish enough to be married, your wife will want a $500,000 house. If you're a doctor who makes $200,000 per year and are similarly foolish, your wife will want a $2,000,000 house. Me, I think the smart thing is to find the cheapest possible place (think squatting in the Paper Street house in the Fight Club movie), bank and invest all your income, and spend it on your goals. None of that would be possible when married. Agree with OP, it's not about being bitter; it's amazing your mental health improvement, and how easily your goals get accomplished, once you break those slavery chains, and set your own worthwhile goals (goals other than 'what can I do to make her happy' which is not likely to ever happen). (And nah, that Paper Street house is probably not your best option, but neither is 'stupidly in debt for a crappy overpriced house you can't afford.' Somewhere in between seems best.)

Right now I pay about $1000 a month to live. When I make anything extra, I save that. I never spend money on women, sometimes it looks like I am, but I make that back usually by finagling something out of them, like a bottle of wine or something else that cancels out what I spend. I'm a great cook, so that makes it easy. Come to my place (already cheaper than going out) I'll cook (no tipping, no driving, no paying for overpriced food that I can make way tastier for less money) and then we watch a movie and likely fuck after we consume her wine. I spend literally nothing other than my time and energy, and even that is something I only reserve for that momentary fun. I only pay attention to such things when I'm bored. Spend most of my time working on my life.

Yeah, travel is my main expense after my normal life. I've traveled to 14 countries, mostly through cheaper means, even hitchhiking on sailboats for five months to do it. Was very cheap that way.

In the UK, on a wage of Β£35k/$50k, the mortgage lenders would only give you around Β£110-130k for a house, so good luck to her trying to get the guy nearly triple that lol

In the US they'll give you a mortgage with payments up to half of your income, assuming no other debts.
On $50k that puts you at ~$350,000, assuming an interest rate of 4.5%.
You'd be stupid to take that much (and the bank would be stupid to give it to you) but that's how it works.

Yeah, I was exaggerating a little about what the mortgage lenders are willing to lend. But it's scary the size of mortgage they do allow you to sign for. Enslaved to a ridiculous size mortgage payment, always one or two missed payments away from losing it all; doesn't sound MGTOW to me. (But paying it off early does sound MGTOW (probably), so long as it's land/property that can maintain or increase value. I'm considering a switch from renting to owning [mortgaging?] in a couple/few years, so I'm thinking about this stuff, but I'm nowhere near understanding it all yet.)

Yeah, I'm waiting for my LISA to pay dividends in July (it's a savings account where the government gives you a 25% bonus on what you've saved that year, up to Β£1000 per year, to be used towards a house deposit), then I'm looking at buying.
My initial instinct would be to buy a very cheap place and pay it off in 5 years, then live a mortgage-free lifetstyle. But on the other hand, people argue that buying a more expensive place will pay dividends down the road in terms of built up equity. I guess my current attitude is middle of the road - go for what I can comfortably afford, but pay enough to avoid the lower class areas, and get something I'll at least be happy to live in for a decade or two.

this is a GREAT point. i see too much mgtow about working endlessly and making 6 digits as the way to happiness. to me that is nothing but drama. the only wealth i care about is the wealth to care for me and my simple life. which isn't hard if you work a steady job and save.
to me mgtow is the opposite. not buying steak. not having a BMW because why do i need a nice car when i don't care about pussy. i'd rather buy a cheap car. for me mgtow is about the quiet peaceful moments that cost nothing. the mornings i wake up that are all my own, the moments i don't have a GF or wife texting me, nagging me to come home or yelling at me for simply wanting to see my friends. that is pure ecstasy.

The thought of waking up in my own place, doing myself a nice breakfast, taking my dog out for a good long walk in the country, and then spending the afternoon hanging out with friends or playing my guutar, then finishing the day off with a cigar is heaven to me.

I need to find a way to express this sentiment because once I really sat down and starting researching some different MGTOW philosophies something clicked in me and it was like the shackles were broken. Iβm in my 30βs and was kind of a functioning alcoholic for most of my 20βs and early 30βs. Had some fun times but put myself in stupid pointless debt with credit cards and spending too much money drinking and chasing women. Once I sobered up and realized I had to start acting like an adult, I was really tore up about the financial hole that Iβve gotten myself into because I knew that would be a huge hurdle in any long term relationship. Then I started thinking βwhy the hell should that be my goal?β And I moved in to a cheaper place basically went full monk mode for about a year and I can see light at the end of the tunnel. Iβll be totally debt free before Iβm 40 and after that, Iβll have no obligations. I donβt mind living cheap, cause Iβm pretty minimalistic anyway, but I have a halfway decent job that I like, so Iβll be able to do whatever the hell I want and live fairly well.

I quit drinking when I was 30 but also got divorced. Live in a cheap place with objective of paying it off and having no monthly payment. That worked beautifully, it's amazing how much a person can save and accomplish with no wife and no debt. I'm 68 now and am financially secure and doing what I enjoy. Life's good.

Yeah, I don't even have a TV to avoid the license, and I cancelled landline wifi and just tether from my phone (unlimited data on Three for Β£20 a month, nice deal). I'm generally all about streamlining bills, rather than getting into a load of messy financial obligations. Still applied to lease a new car (Skoda Octavia, so not BMW-fancy), because my used cars are just too much trouble for what they're worth. Have to accelerate really gently just with the current one because the clutch is starting to slip.
And kids - no chance. It's like people read a guide on how to mess their lives up, follow it, then act shocked when they get what they asked for.

I live on a decent size city. Lots of nature around that is essential to me as most of my hobbies are outside. When I was making around 40K here I was able to have a decent size apartment to live comfortably. A used but great shape car that I liked and enjoyed (got compliments often if that counts for anything), eat healthy and well because I cook my own food and only have to feed me and occasionally family/friends. Had money for my hobbies (thankfully they're pretty cheap) and almost each month I was putting away around 1000dollars for savings/investments. I was careful with my money but never really restricted myself too much.
That's what happens when you don't have a wife/serious gf and don't try to impress women/people in general.

As someone who has made $150k in the past, it's very overrated. Imho, after traveling the world and discovering myself, all I need is a nice sunny and green place with some water whether a lake or the ocean, peace and quiet, with a lot of distance between me and the neighbors so I don't have to hear or see them. Go fishing and kayaking occasionally, and eat fish or steak.
Basically a simple relaxing life over a luxury life any day. If you live in a nice location you don't even need to travel. I can go swimming, skiing, hiking, mountain biking, or anything I want in my area.

Sounds simple, but the reality is basically impossible where I live. In the UK, the country isn't for poor people - it's for rich people. Somewhere secluded is expensive, fishing and kayaking is all regulated and you probably need a lawyer just to do it lol. Not that it's usually warm enough to even be worth going outside. I'd like somewhere with proper seasons - snowy winters, warm summers. Can't even have a fire in your house here because of rules.

Taxes keep the poor poor. Checkout the Nobel prize economist Milton Friedman, he has many videos and lectures on how taxes severely handicap the poor so that they stay poor. For example, the first $1000 you earn per month gets 100% utilized for your survival like rent and food, the second $1000 you earn per month goes to emergency savings, retirement, etc.. therefore the government shoudn't even tax the first $50k you make a year, let alone $12k yet the govt usually only gives you a $5K exemption which is peanuts.

Well, here the tax free allowance is about $16.6k, which is round about what someone on minimum wage, full time earns, so they effectively don't get taxed, which is nice enough.
I make about Β£2200 a month gross, and get about Β£1770 home (more like Β£1650 after student loan repayments and pension lol), which I think is fairly reasonable. I spend about Β£900 a month on essentials, and save the rest.

Well, I retired by age 26, after working really hard for 7 years, managed to put away $500k in the bank and living off interest and dividends, so now at 32 I never have to worry about working and spend my free time living a simple life. The fact that I don't have to work means I'm not a slave. This is also doable with only $200k in the bank, depending on how your lifestyle and residence is set up. That's what always kinda frustrated me was that all the mgtows I read stories about made 6 figures or more. Hell 80% of the people who post on here talk about making 6 figures. In my 20's i wasted my time pissing away money on girls who I thought would exchange sexual favors (blind to the fact that fuckboys not only got most sexual favors for free, but girls would also give them rides) for money/free meals/gifts. Now I'm in my mid-30's just now learning about MGTOW with a decent job, luckily I'm frugal and content with what I've got. Not my situation, but a theoretical for you
Monthly: Mortgage + taxes for home: $2400 Car Payment: 250 Cell Phone: 80 Internet+TV (only one provider): 120 Car Insurance: 140 Electric+Gas: 120 Gas to commute to work: 100
That alone comes out to about 3200 dollars a month, or 38 grand a year. That's before taxes are taken out of your paycheck for both federal and state. Maintenance on your house like replacing the rough and servicing the furnace, contributing to your savings, eating food, or any sort of recreational activities. Oh, I almost forgot HEALTH INSURANCE which is astronomically high, so factor that in too.
Again, not my situation, but these numbers are pretty accurate for people in my area, and I'm not talking glamour houses either.
Areas that pay good money also have high living costs typically. If you're blowing 20k a year on asian prostitute trips and driving a 80k dollar car, you're most likely living paycheck to paycheck. Which is fine, but I prefer having the financial security of being well invested. So I save what I can, and try to strike a balance between quality of life and cost savings.

Find a 15-20 year old BMW and learn how to fix it yourself. Or learn how to ride a motorcycle and go adventuring. Save your money so you can find ways to invest and retire early.
