It's a photo of a man and boy in lifejackets laying on their back looking pathetic which would illicit genuine sympathy but there was another photo which shows other "asylum seekers " standing knee deep in the water about 6 feet away. Unpopular opinion: Gyms are scams.
You're literally PAYING to pick up stuff and put it down. Just buy some weights and you get to do it in the comfort of your own home whenever you want, however you want without having to deal with people.
The only reason I've heard most people say why wasting money on a gym membership is worth it is because "they don't want that money to go to waste, so it motivates them to go" aka negative motivation as in they aren't internally motivated to begin with, and that's exactly the kind of people gyms target.
Also, your home's floor doesn't have AIDS, so you get to do exercises on the floor at home too.

Eh I like working out in different environments to keep it fresh. I only pay $26/mo. so it's not bad at all. The gym I go to has a pool & sauna so that makes it even more appealing. I have a home gym and gym at my amenity center as well. As long as you're stressing your system that's all that matters really.

I hear a lot of people talk about home gyms, but you must do a very simplistic and limited workout. I enjoy/need/make good use of all of the different equipment that you just cannot have in a home gym. If it works for you at home great, it doesnt work for me.

Used weight is the way to go. I bought a set of dumbbells in pairs from 5-100 pounds for about $800 with a very sturdy rack. They were pretty rusty from being outdoors. It took five days to clean them up, well worth it.
I spent $100 on a set of used Olympic plates as well.

Exactly. The truth is you should love to work out, not do it out of sacrifice to impress some thots.
There is one reason to join a gym. If you are above average athlete you will benefit from it. You dont need it, but you will benefit from it.
You will have swimming pool. You will have special machines that target specific muscles. You have threadmill, that is useful if you need to do cardio and dont want to just go run around in the street. Other than that, everything can be done at home better.

And the mentality of "well I'm not above average, so I don't need these things" is why you're not above average (and the average in North America is fucking pathetic, for the record).
You're right above most of the machines though, free weighting it or cabling it is MUCH better. Machines (like pec-decks and the like) only ever target the large muscle group and miss all the stabilizing muscles. Avoid. Machines are for women.

Im an athlete. I have my homegym, and i go to the gym too. Im ripped half of the year. Ask me anything.
As for the average man he doesnt need to go to the gym. And he can do perfectly well with just some weights to lift at home. That is already excellent if he does that. Gym should not be the priority. The priority should be home gym, and having your own things, and do it because you love to do it.

I even remember seeing the words "JUDGMENT FREE ZONE" in huge words across the wall.
I also saw a sign that said you couldn't bring in large bottles of water because it supposedly made you look like a "lunker" and they said it was a "lunker free zone" as well.
I jokingly asked them, "wouldn't calling someone a lunker and shaming them for needing large amounts of water be judging them?"

Local laundromats. They are still around in large metro areas. You just have to look for them. When I get my van, I might get one of those portable washing machine.
The trick to needed save money on washing is to take at least two weeks worth of clothes and always sleep in different clothes then the ones you use thruout the day.

Incline bench is one of the only things I use a smith machine for, wtf? It's supposed to be "don't be that guy squatting or deadlifting with the smith machine". Literally benching on the smith is perfect when you don't have a spotter and its really the ONLY thing its useful for.
Many pro bodybuilders use the smith machine for incline bench and sometimes shoulder presses. WTF are you doing with the smith machine?
