A price cap does not solve the underlying problem. You are using a Government, set up to protect people and property from foreign invaders, to bully businesses. You don't see how this is dangerous, but I do.

Incorrect. Home schooled children and private school graduates perform far better academically and financially. Home schooled students are some of the brightest people you will ever meet. They are not corrupted by the Hispanic and Black thug attitude corrupting public school children.

The Federal Government offers student loans.

It's essentially guaranteed money for colleges.

Sure, more students can attend college now, but that means more guaranteed money for colleges.

Colleges: "If it's guaranteed at $200/credit, why not increase tuition to $300/credit? Why not $400/credit? Oh shit we're still getting paid!!"

So colleges say, "Fuck it, we'll keep raising tuition, making bank, and you idiots [parents and students] have to pay the Federal Government back."

So tuition is raised, not only for Fed debtors, but students paying out of pocket.

The best solution mathematically, is to prevent the Federal government from offering student loans. It should have never done so in the first place, it's a government not a bank. It's there to kill invading countries and maintain the roads, that's it.

What sounded like a good idea, turned into an extremely expensive outcome. It's worth noting that this was a program started by the Democrat Party (soon to be the party of Socialism). A LOT of people masturbate to the idea that "eVerYonE nEEds tO gO tO cOLLeGe" not realizing the cost burden is ALWAYS on the taxpayer. You. Me. I'm a taxpayer. College should be affordable/available for everyone.

No it shouldn't, and this attitude is precisely the problem. Far fewer jobs than demand a BA actually need one. And consequently, a BA has become the new high school diploma. At this crazy rate, in twenty years you'll need an MA to be a receptionist.

Caps need to be put in place and regulated.

No, we just need to end the market-distorting incentives. The reason tuition has skyrocketed is because of federal student loans and the federally mandated university bureaucracy needed for things like Title IX and FAFSA. If, as was the case for most of US history, government wasn't making uncontrolled sums of cash available to everybody and sending the message that college is essential, we'd all be better off, and there wouldn't be a trillion dollar student loan bubble ready to burst.

Yes, having the best institutions of higher learning in the world is an abomination. It's unthinkable that we have institutions like MIT and the University of Chicago outclassing the public universities of the rest of the world. Meanwhile, what we definitely want more of are public universities bursting at the seems with unqualified students like University Of Central Florida and Arizona State.

You're right, private universities are the key ill of American higher education. Not the rampant abuse and expansion of Title IX, not the mass suppression of free speech and thought, not the abundance of do-nothing degrees in bullshit subjects like Gender Studies, not the infection of our culture bullshit word salad papers designed to survive a publish or perish system, not the systematic discrimination of affirmative action, or the staggeringly low graduation rates of many HBCUs. No, the real problem is that our brightest students would rather go to Harvard than UMass Dartmouth.

The basics for society are healthcare, housing, and education.

Society has exactly one function, and that is to provide for the common defense. It is not intended to facilitate theft from the productive to subsidize the useless, even if attitudes such as your try and normalize that deviancy. Healthcare, housing, and education all require the labor and capital of others, and therefore by definition cannot ever be rights. As they are not rights and are not related to the core rationale behind the organization of societies, it is not the place of government to distort the market and provide any of these services to society at large.

And you think increasing the demand for education is the solution to our pricing problem? You know, college isn't and shouldn't be free, but unfortunately public libraries are. I suggest you go to one and check out copies of Basic Economics by Thomas Sowell and Economics in One Lesson by Henry Hazlitt.
