Story: I was out with my girlfriend and her two kids at the toboggan slope.

I was standing at the bottom of the slope with my girlfriend and her 4 year old, while her 9 year old and her friend were coming down the slope in a toboggan.

When they were halfway down the slope I noticed they were careening towards the spot we were standing, and the kids seemed unable to steer it away.

My gf and her child were standing a bit away from me and I looked over to check if she was making any attempts at getting out of the way. She wasn't.

It was now clear the toboggan was on an imminent collision course with the 4 year old and the gf.

I immediately ran over and picked up the child just as the toboggan hit us, it narrowly missed my legs and crashed into my girlfriend who got knocked down.

If I hadn't picked the kid up she would have no doubt gotten injured.

It left quite an impression on me that she seemed to lack any real crisis response or impulse to save her child.
