The last point about blocking anybody who wants to know her in person is one of the biggest issues here. Anybody whos serious about online dating will chat just long enough to make sure the other person doesn't have any serious issues, then meet up. You don't really know if you will like the other person until you interact in person.
The problem is that women get a lot out of the constant validation of spending hours/days/weeks texting that a man is vying for her attention. Most of the time they'll block/ghost right before meeting and they know it well ahead of time. So when men understand what a colossal waste of time is being pen pals is, women lose a lot of that free attention.
