You get maternity leave because you should have time to spend with a newborn. Its not good, for the mother or the baby, for the mother to work immediately before and after giving birth. Maternity leave is a policy in place for the health benefits of the child and the mother. Its not a free, extra vacation, as this woman clearly thinks it is.
Women like this see maternity leave as just some perk/benefit. They see social structure through the lens of status (remember the feminists that build a bridge and tried to give it an aesthestics spin, and it collapsed?). They dont understand how or why things work. They dont understand the reasoning behind maternity leave. They see it as a perk, and think its unfair that they dont get it as well.

In my opinion the benefit comes from a happier work force in the long term. It isn't a short term benefit that can be calculated like an hourly pay rate. I guess that's the argument against it. Having people on pay roll that aren't currently working to make the company money seems like (and probably is) a short term loss. But so is having to pay workman's comp insurance premiums in case your employees get hurt on the job. It's just that it's better for the employees. It creates an environment where the workers feel valued and protected, so that they aren't resentful of working or their bosses. In theory this should help productivity the rest of the time, and should breed longevity in the span of the career. That's without taking into account the costs of training new employees (especially if it's paid training where they aren't having output for the company's input). A new employee to replace a worker that quits to be with his family is going to cost the company as well.
So I guess it's debatable as to which is preferable, unless we start digging up data (I'm sure there's been research done by both public and private interests) into production quality and employee productivity as it relates to a sense if ownership and connectedness to the job.

Honestly dude, if most of corporate America actually cared about their employees' work-life balance, why is it that the vast majority of them still enforce the 40-hour work week (keep in mind, this is generally enforced as a FLOOR and also keep in mind that the average office worker is productive for barely 3 hours a day) and have a bunch of bueracratic bullshit like pointless meetings among other bullshit? Not to mention incompetent buffoons in management make such a big deal about telecommuting despite the fact it oftentimes IMPROVES productivity doing so.
All I'm saying is (m/p)aternity leave is a luxury compared to all of insurmountable amount of other bullshit that goes on in corporate America that it seems silly to argue about if we're going to actually assume employers give a shit about employees work-life balance (they don't, just saying).

I am not a communist.
But children are a serious issue, they need lots of care and resources.
Plenty of folks need assistance to raise their kids and I do believe that it's the responsibility of the government to provide for them.
Children are the labourers of the next generation, so it's important to ensure their welfare.
I advocate for increasing the minimum wage and lowering the taxes on the middle class, so all the workers can ensure the benefits of a better life, kids or not.

I can support the argument that it's unfair to give people with children paid time off that is not extended to their single counterparts. After all, why should people who choose not to have children be forced to shoulder the burden of those who do? Why should the childless subsidize those with children?
The only logical way to build this argument, is to base it on fairness and reciprocity. Her argument completely falls apart because she violates these principles when she insists that women are more entitled to paid time off than men. She seems to be suggesting that women are more fragile and more prone to burnout, which would suggest that women become less productive and less reliable employees the longer they are in any given position. If that is true, then we ought to ensure that the wage Gap becomes real because men are clearly better employees, less prone to burnout according to her, and therefore more valuable to their employers.

I've seen plenty of colleagues as well as the number of family members go on both maternity and paternity leave. I can tell you that it is almost entirely time spent with your feet up doing jack schitt. Yes, it is true that having a newborn will put demands on your time that were not there before. However, those demands are Manageable. In some cases, you end up with a fussy child and experienced severe sleep deprivation. However, in most cases, your kids going to sleep about 20 hours a day for the first 3 months and you are going to have to do a whole hell of a lot other than feed it and change its diapers. Child leave turns out to be a leisurely vacation for the vast majority of people.
But that's not the point. The real point is that having children is a choice. If you choose to do it, why should you be afforded benefits that are not extended to the people who choose not to have children? There are plenty of things in life that are demanding besides having children. Why is there no leave for taking care of a sick parent, a friend with cancer, a dying pet, or renovating your kitchen? All of these things take time, involve major changes to Lifestyle, and can be emotionally draining. None of them, however, require having children. Why the fuck should people who choose to have children be given 3 to 6 months of paid time off and the rest of us are simply expected to work around major Life events? What's good for the goose is good for the gander, so we should stop calling this shit Child leave, and simply give people a large chunk of time that can be used once or maybe twice in a career when shit really hits the fan.

I can actually get behind the idea of extending the benefits afforded to employees with children to single employees as well. The idea that only people with children get to take several months off of work and then come back as if nothing ever happened is Ludacris. Additionally, the idea that single employees will pick up the slack left buy those with children because they had to leave early for soccer practice, dentist appointments, Etc is ludicrous.
I could actually get behind her idea, and I've had similar thoughts myself. Unfortunately, she completely undermines her argument when she says:

Once again the value of man is diminished. We're treated as wage slaves and automatons who are there to serve and whose feelings, thoughts, and personal interests don't matter. So, while the core of her idea is good, the execution is Tainted by the fact that she's a bitch.
