When my narc ex and I split up (one year ago tomorrow), I was pretty much destroyed. I started working quickly to improve myself with the hope that I would "win" her back by being what she wanted. The only thing was that I was far too bluepilled at the time. But after a bit, I decided that I was going to do it for myself. Not for her. I would either be better with her, or better without her. Either way, I would be better.

Fast forward to today. I'm better without her. But I'm still better.

And frankly, she doesn't deserve me.

When it happened I didn't have what she wanted at the moment: drugs, paid rent, enough status and money, some position, time to waste, and so on. I'd take it personally, but it's not. Just a question of supply and demand and tit-for-tat.
