I see a great time to buy some stocks.

The stock market goes in cycles. We were due for a drop.

The stock market ALWAYS recovers. It has survived wars, great depression, oil shocks, pandemics, global financial crisis, and so on. Trying to time the market has shown, time and again, not to work and to be less profitable than holding and continuing to buy through downturns.

Yeah, a lot of greedy people own stocks. But, so can you. Join in. Buy a little here and there. That's the beauty of it; it is somewhat - dare I say - mostly democratic.

Stocks literally represent shares of ownership in the companies that are the literal backbone of our capitalist economy. And they are the main wealth builders of the country's elite. Those elite, through the federal reserve or whatever other means they deem necessary are going to fight like hell to keep stocks rising, whether it be through organic earnings growth or fancy financial engineering like quantitative easing. I want to throw my lot in with the powers that be. If stocks drop for a sustained period of time, we are going to have bigger problems, because it's going to mean our economy is failing. And if our economy is failing, I don't want to hold government or corporate bonds or the currency of a country with a failing economy anyway.

I do believe stocks are the best long term option. There's no guarantee that they go up forever. Past isn't necessarily prologue. But I firmly believe that if they go down, then the economy is going down with them (so long as we still practice capitalism as we know it.) Cash is literally U.S. government debt, and holding it during a prolonged recession/depression isn't going to be a get out of jail free card. Unless we fundamentally alter the world economy, I see myself always preferring equities, whether they be U.S. ones, or from some other country in the future.

Capitalism always finds a way.

I think it's certainly real. That being said, the government will never waste a good crisis to increase their power and authority.

On a side tangent, I'm a firm believer in Walter Sheidel's great leveler theory. Covid could just be that leveler. But honestly, we need more; it needs to be even more virulent to really level things out.

The markets were already in a bubble....second biggest in modern history for stocks. I think they have good intentions and are reacting this way because a small vocal crowd (20-33%) demand it and politicians by default try to shut these people up.

We just happen to have a financial system and fractional reserve banking that really need negative rates to work in such an environment...otherwise there is a shortage of money (the interest money to pay off loans doesn't exist) and the whole system was overleveraged (the everything bubble)

Corporations spent the last 2 years buying back stock instead of paying down debt and home prices are at all time highs, student load debt is through the roof, and entitlement liabilities are higher than ever.

The only conspiracy theory that makes sense to me when it comes to the Wuhan Virus is depopulation/genocide. We're in the gates of computerized mass automation which will kill off the vast majority of jobs without any possible replacement (most people can't learn to write high level programs and even code monkey jobs will be automated). What should the elites do with the masses who now will never have jobs? Let them leech off them via UBI? No, we are talking about greedy psychopaths. Genocide makes the most sense to them.

It does require conspiracy for people, in small groups or large, to do evil or destructive things, with or without a motive to do so.

But I suppose it is possible.

OTOH, maybe what we are seeing is someone taking advantage of a situation for their own gain, and by “someone”, I do not limit the numbers of people in any way.

“Never let a crisis go to waste” is a well-known and age-old adage of opportunists for a reason.

Alot of interesting coincidences...i'm not really into conspiracy theories but it's definitely crazy. At least in the future we will be better prepared because of this. So there's always that upside i suppose. People will definitely make some real money in the markets if they caught on quick back in january/february and dumped everything. Even if they bought back in now they'd make a killing in the next year or so. It might even go a little bit lower here in the month of april. It's going to get alot worse stateside.

Yes it's part of an engineered depression.

We've seen the past 20 years spent promoting going cashless in Canada we've been the world leaders in adopting debit payments.

We've seen 30 years of promoting leasing of automobiles and promoting having new and shiney in the driveway. I've got 1 local auto store flat out refusing to do warranty replacement on "lifetime warranty" suspension and brake parts. Guess I'm the fool for driving 20+ year old "junk" and buying the premium parts 15 years ago. One truck is on set 6 of shocks from tenneco (monroe)

In canada I'm seeing renters and seasonal workers crying and begging for free handouts and as a prepared home owner it sickens me.

I really hope some sense comes out of this and voting becomes a privledge for the net tax payer and those who served in millitary.

A lot of people are going to become woke to the fact they were a diversity hire or a pretty face and the bossman has crunched numbers and decided not to be charitable any longer. Why would they as 20 years ago they could have at least got some oral satisfaction for keeping them around.

I'm hoping a few restaurants clue in and move back to a lunch counter style setup, just have 1 counter attendant handling the register and drinks bussing, customer picks up food at the counter. With apps for everything it would be super simple to put a tablet at the table or order from phone app, plus the 30 min in and out lunch. Hit the order button on the way over, food on table 3 mins after arrival.

I see the big down swings in the market as a "black friday special" on the stocks I want to buy. Picked up 100 shares of my favorites on a 40% discount. Makes for nice dividends. Now to just keep at it until my income is replaced.

Because of infinite QE and 0% interest rates the fed is trying to prop up this market as much as they can. Especially the over inflated real estate. People are thinking of buying homes because of the low interest rate. Increase in demand. If unless people start going in massive foreclosures, increase in supply, doesn't happen then we will not see collapsing house prices.

It looks like engineered crisis by mass media. Mass media and internet has become an echo chamber. And govt can't ignore the media. And non-sitting political parties and politicians (self-serving) who want to tarnish the standing government clamor for action and pummel the government for lack of action. And doctors and other so called experts create fear and paranoia by giving statistics and probable figures which nobody verifies. In this way, the fear is magnified and induces the govt to act regardless of ground reality. And govt acts with the hammer. It shuts down everything and spends more and more debt money. Expect more of these events in future due to internet and media becoming insane and more attention hungry.

I think that is a bit extreme, while there is no doubt that covid-19 has hurt the markets. There are many larger factors out there that are doing more damage. Such as the feud between Russia and Saudi Arabia. gas in my area is going anywhere from 65 cents a litre to 69 cents. When much of our stocks and GDP is tied to oil. This will have much further reaching effects than a closure.
