Taking sex out of it. No physical altercation should end up with anyone in that condition.

When you get physical with someone you have to expect there is a chance of being badly hurt, whether by malicious intent or by accident.

Go to /r/watchpeopledie and you will see counts of punches that end up with someone hitting the concrete with their head. This is self defense 101. Get into a 20-class jiu jitsu self-defense class at least.

Notice that other martial arts teach extending the arm, which is not really advisable because your temple (region over the ears) is not protected.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IS5FgwqQ1a8

You got to protect the entire vulnerable region between your neck (inclusive) and the top of your head. The only way to do this is to flex your arm entirely until your fingertips almost touch the ears on the opposite side.

If you dont believe it works:

It's not uncommon for people to take serious injuries from a single punch not because of the punch but because being knocked out makes them fall backwards and slam their head right on the concrete.

As bad as this is, everything points to exactly such a scenario. You can't really fault him given that she punched him first. You might say he punched too hard but that's not even clear. If she was drunk enough, a very light punch could have already knocked her out. Also, you can't expect him to hold back when he's under attack. If it was a smaller guy attacking another guy, nobody would be crying about this. That last part says it all really.

[–]Bailie2 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sounds like her hitting the ground did the most damage. This is a silly article to post.

[–]morpheustech 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Don't start something you can't finish.

[–]Wisemanner 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Most commentators support the guy, with the usual smattering of white knights, of course. It is unfortunate that the girl sustained serious injuries, but it could have been the other way around if the guy had lost his balance. Apparently, she had already attacked other guys before the video started, so the guy has actually done a good service.

[–]AloysiusC 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I have to take issue with the title though. While technically true, it's kind of messed up. Nobody who wants equality is hoping for more of this sort of thing to happen.

[–]LasherDeviance 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If they want equal rights, they can get equal lefts.

[–]Kuramo 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Nice to read this. What did this woman expect after she attacked this man.

[–]LasherDeviance 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She expected to hit him and bash him publicly with no repercussions.

She didn't get what she wanted so it became news.

[–]TibsKirk 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Violence is bad. I can definitely imagine a feminist seeing this thread, and letting it confirm all of his or her perceptions of the MRM as a hateful movement full of angry wife-beaters. A battered man or woman is never a win for equality.

[–]grasshopa 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's the point. It's not just about the good.

Folks that make a habit or career out of whining about "Equality" only do so about the good, never about the bad. You can't separate the benefits and privileges from the responsibility though; they lose all meaning.

You want women to be treated as equals, fine; here's an example of a woman being treated as an equal, and the news article makes it out like she's a victim. She's not. Regardless of what came before the video started, she engaged in physical hostilities. This result was an implicit possible outcome to her choice, she shouldn't be portrayed as if she did nothing wrong.

Nope. This is genuinely misogynistic bullshit that doesn't belong here. Take it to some beating women subreddit. You shouldn't almost die for taking a swing: the punishment only fits the crime if you hate the other person. This sub is not about hating women.

She assaulted him, visibly. The days are coming to a close where men just sit there and take the beating because the one doing it is female.

You shouldn't almost die for taking a swing

Of course not, but the reality is that we're all one slip away from dying because of a brain injury, and if you engage in violence and strike someone, you've pretty much immediately ramped up the risk that you'll experience that kind of injury. She doesn't swing at him, and there's no way she ends up unconscious and falling to the ground awkwardly.

the punishment only fits the crime if you hate the other person

Yeah, because unintended consequences simply never happen. Ever. It's all hate.

This sub is not about hating women.

You're right, but no one is hating on her, here. What happened was unfortunate, but hardly intentional or malicious, and we all want her to recover fully and go on to bigger and better things.

But, we also want equality before the law, and that means women that do this kind of thing should see prison just as often as men do. We both know that won't happen in this case.

[–]makerboost 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Life isn't fair. Stay out of trouble, and especially don't attack someone stronger than you.

[–]Kuramo 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Oh, could you give your opinion without being a white-knight idiot?

[–]grasshopa 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Actually, I don't want anyone to get hurt.

The title, and the purpose behind the thread, was sarcasm/irony. Equality encourages men and women to treat each other as equals in all things, yet society still clings to dated norms which treat women as superior. Here we see the intersection.

She felt "empowered" to hit him, and he felt "empowered" to defend himself. She probably thought society would protect the woman, and he reacted as if she were an equal.

[–]mighty914 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I see both sides. She shouldn't have swung at someone without expecting some type of repercussion. That said, it's tough for me to see someone fighting for her life as a "win" for anything.

[–]Wisemanner 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is genuinely misogynistic bullshit that doesn't belong here.

Nope. It's sex equality.

You shouldn't almost die for taking a swing:

That was entirely an accident. It could equally have been that he had fallen and suffered the same injury when she had hit him.

[–]hackableyou 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

You have a good point. This is one extreme. The other extreme is "men can never hit women, especially when women are violent." Both of these extremes are bad.

I am guessing OP liked it because it is a refreshing change from the second extreme, which is by far more common. But this is too far.

[–]itty_bitty_beaver 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

But this was extreme by accident. The damage was caused by the pavement, not the punch, and I pretty much guarantee you that the man didn't intend to hospitalize her in any capacity.

[–]hackableyou 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah that is a good point. She definately deserved to get punched. Getting hospitalized is unfortunate.

[–]Brodman_area11 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree. The idea that men can get hit, or even abused, without consequence is a serious issue. THAT belongs here. Not this juvinile schadenfreude that seems to bring out the people who will match any feminist for hateful behavior.

[–]Mens-Advocate 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You assume you speak for the whole sub or worse for all MRAs.

[–]Brodman_area11 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nope. You assume you do by trying to silence voices of reason. Take a flying fuck at a rolling donut.

[–]LasherDeviance -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Nope. This is genuinely misogynistic bullshit that doesn't belong here.

No it isn't.

You shouldn't almost die for taking a swing: the punishment only fits the crime if you hate the other person.

Being a martial artist for over 25 years, it's pretty much reflex to block and retaliate full force, because I was taught that outside the dojo, any encounter with an assailant my be your last. Every retaliatory attack from me comes full force. I'll strike back faster than I can see who the assailant is. It's the main reason that anyone who knows me well knows not to sneak up on me. My wife and children included. This guy has probably been taught the same thing. PTSD sufferers are the same way like my Vietnam war veteran dad.

This sub is not about hating women.

Absolutely true. Most of the men here are here because they love women but they don't like bullshit that women get to pull over men's eyes. All we want to do is love women unconditionally but they make that impossible, so we share wisdom on how to not be duped and lose your livelihood in the process. That's a small amount of what the MRM is about.

[–]Brodman_area11 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If you're wife and children have to adjust their behavior to avoid your violent reactions, you're inadequately trained.
