Rates in Canada peaked around 1970 at 80-90% and have dropped to 10-15% today (we suspect... we don't know because they are usually done outside of hospitals and there is no reporting requirement).

Rates in the USA have dropped since their peak, but remain around 50% today.

It's kind of like finding people who believe that Jesus literally speaks to them, or people who think health care should be denied to people who don't have quality jobs that provide health insurance for them.

They're fairly rare in most of the developed world, but cross the border into America and there they are.

It really is strange how American society is a weird mix of modern ideas and innovation, while still holding onto ancient mindsets on certain topics and never evaluating whether they still make sense in today's world.

I just can't explain why we have Toddlers and Tiaras, Jersey Shore, Hooters restaurants, torture porn movies... but a nipple on television is a huge event. Somehow the US developed a very weird mix of cultural values.

Very common. Can't remember the statistics, though. 75%? 80%? Presumably it depends strongly on age--more common the older you are.

I'm 28 and mutilated via circumcision. I'm pretty sure every single guy I know is, too. Only one of my current or ex- girlfriends has ever had sex with a guy with an intact penis.

When I was younger, I worked as a nurse's aid taking care of senior citizens. I took care of men who were circumcised, and men who were not. I didn't take care of hundreds of men, just a few dozen, but among them I did notice that there were less in the oldest generation I took care of (old enough to include WWII veterans) who were circumcised than there were among the younger (older end of the boomers) set. Beyond that, my own generation (gen-x) seemed to be nearly all circumcised.

By the time my son was born, information about the drawbacks and pointlessness of the procedure was widespread enough that other parents my age were not shocked when my husband and I said we didn't opt for the procedure, but were leaving the choice up to him to make as an adult. (It wasn't a topic we introduced, but we moms talk about post-natal care with each other a lot, so it does come up in casual conversation.) It is my understanding based just on my own circle of friends and family that intact guys will not be a rarity in my son's generation. Among my set, younger parents are mostly choosing to leave their sons intact, but I don't know how common that is to other parents. So yeah, to my knowledge, intact are kind of rare in general in at least my neck of the woods (Ohio,) but more so with my own age group than with older guys, and becoming more common as folks here become more informed.

One thing I'll note here because I've seen the misconception spread in other places... as an aide, I did not find it in any way more difficult to provide hygienic care to uncircumcised old men than to circumcised old men, nor was it more difficult providing hygienic care to my uncircumcised infant than to circumcised infants I babysat prior to becoming a mother.

Incidence, that is how many are done every year, is about 54-32% today but prevalence (how many men are currently circumcised) is much higher.

I'm an American (circumcised) and am casually dating a woman from the UK. I'm actually dreading that "conversation" should things escalate.

As 31 I am circumcised, I have 2 boys both are as well.

I used to work with children who were uncircumcised and I think it is not as healthy. The risk of something that could render you sterile is higher then those of us circumcised. In my experience women like the circumcised look better then the uncircumcised.
