I think about this a lot. They scream "toxic masculinity" when men don't show emotion, but men express their feelings about something that they are passionate about, it's "fragile masculinity". Like just shut up already. They are never happy. The problem is that they made feminism their identity. They can't live a day without it because it's their image. Religion served a purpose, and maybe it still does, but it's worth exploring what purpose that is; a cohesive binding of people together under a single value system. To date nothing has been as effective as religion in this regard.
The social chaos we're experiencing today could be a direct result of the weakening of those bonds with nothing to replace them. Perhaps this phase will lead to a more generic value system not beholden to any single religion; that would be exciting to watch. If you couldn't tell; I'm not religious. I don't have "faith". But you don't need that to understand what religion has done for society, and why we're where we are because of it's loss of prominence. I sincerely hope our society evolves to a stable place without religion because I recognize the bad it's capable of too.

It brings a degree of personal and community to fulfillment to many people. Rather you agree with them or not, the societal impact religion has is easy to observe both at the level of the individual and the community. Yes, it can also have a negative element, but that can be said of just about anything else as well.

Ensuring that a society has a coherent set of moral values. Children learn best from stories, and religions are full of stories that teach moral and ethical values. Also, without the threat of an all-knowing authority figure passing out inescapable punishment there are many people who would not feel the need to act in a moral or ethical manner. How many religious people do you know who are good people only because they want to get to heaven and avoid hell. It is shitty, but it does lead to societal stability more than instability. I am an agnostic atheist. I also see where religion still has a place to play in society.

In terms of a percentage I’d say that I know just as many good atheists as I know religious people.

That is exactly what I am saying. Also, I am saying this because it works. I also find it distasteful, but that changes nothing. For the ignorant masses scaring them into acting correctly is exactly what religion has always been about. What works better: "Do this because it is the right thing to do" or "Do this because if you don't the invisible all knowing sky man will punish you forever"
Sadly, scaring people into acting correctly is and has always been the best way to ensure such behavior without violence

Look, nothing I am saying is contentious. Religion is now and has always been a form of societal controll. It makes for a more homogenous society when the people have similar values. There is a reason that it is often mentioned that the rule of law in western nations is based on Jewish and Christian values. The nation's with the least violence are that way because if a society based on a mutual set of morals and values and a large portion of society sharing those values. Religion is the simplest way to share those values and have people play along. You can plug your fingers in your ears and be willfully ignorant all you want. That chnages nothing. However, I have found decision making based off feelings rather than evidence is more the realm of theists and not athiests.

Yes, because people, countries and corporations who control the world without any religious influence have never done and is not committing heinous crimes against humanity. Communism, holocaust, slavery(which is a massive industry still), corporations trying to buy all the fresh water and dumping poison in it if they can't.æ is just the tip of the iceberg. I'm so glad I'm not told that I shouldn't steal, commit adultery or kill, or otherwise behave like how people used to, treating each other with the basic human respect because everything wasn't revolving around themself like people think today. Phew, bullet dodged.
I'm not religious, but it's teachings we're the foundation of western civilization.

I honestly don't understand why people don't think churches should not be expressing political opinions. There are tons of non-profits, treated pretty much exactly the same way in the tax code, that are explicitly created to influence politics. The NRA, for example is one such body. Churches being treated as non-profits tax wise isn't exactly a strong argument as to why they shouldn't express themselves politically.

The feminist in this picture isn't even taking the stance that men expressing their emotions are weak/unmasculine, it's saying that their feelings have to match their ideologies/sensitivities to be valid.
Of course, "men need to express their emotions more" is itself an attempt to distract from real issues by painting men's issues as primarily behavioural/social ones with emotional consequences, as opposed to systemic discrimination/bias with real tangible effects.
