A friend of mine is on the board of a large city Boy Scouts. (Well, just scouts now). He tells me that as a result of girls potentially signing up for trips, they now need leaders that have special gender intervention training which many volunteer leaders simply don’t want to go through, limiting their leader pool. Potentially having girls also means they have to women volunteer leaders, but it’s difficult to get moms to volunteer as leaders.

The resulting leader deficiency means many activities get cancelled or simply just don’t get planned anymore.

I feel sorry for boys these days. They can’t have their own spaces to bond with other boys and learn skills to make them into men.

I’m gay. I am thankful that I learned valuable lessons in survival skills, hiking and camping and bonded with boys. I wouldn’t have had that opportunity now. If a boy displays feminine traits there is pressure to trans them now. It’s sad

Foolishly, the Girl Scouts allowed themselves to become little more than a cookie marketing organization that exploited underage labor.

With that said, they could have simply become an organization that did all the stuff BSA did, but that would have reduced the profits their cookie overlords demand.

Finally, and sadly, the BSA was failing and had to reorganize itself massively. Adding a possible membership stream with girls was one of the few options they had to stay in business.

In Australia Scouts has invited girls for more that 30 years, but the reverse isn't true for Girl Guides. Interestingly girls joined Scouts because they wanted to be more adventurous and fun... and girl guides isn't really.

It seems when women only organisations plan things, they play heavily into the trope of women being into crafts and creative endeavours and not being as adventurous or outward bound as men.

From the earliest possible age, the aim is to 'normalise' environments where males are constantly under female scrutiny & supervision, setting the standards of 'acceptable' behaviour.

The level of toxic masculinity and sexism in this thread is truly disturbing. Our local troop is mixed, with boys and girls doing activities together, learning together, providing a safe and respectful space for one another, without even thinking twice about it. Our troop leader fully supports girls and boys participating together. If you have this much anger and resentment that Scouts is now open to girls and boys, you shouldn't be participating as you don't represent the spirit of scouting. Reading these comments is like going back in time to the 1950s. Yikes.

So you're saying having a safe space for girls is ok, but not for boys? Because that's the point. People have no problem making an all girls space that excludes boys, but they need to break into the all boys space. I feel you'd be very angry if a single boy was aloud in the girl scouts.

I agree with the people that say, "if the girls scouts aren't helping girls, they should fix that". The fact that they won't fix the girl scouts is their own problem. They should fix it.

There are also plenty of other scouts, other than the boy and girl scouts, that allow females. In the end girls are leaving the girl scouts because it sucks, and the only way to fix it is it leave it, just don't fuck up other scouts. The boy scouts was one of the last safe spaces for boys. Now it has been ruined.

i didnt watch much of the video, as it seemed to be nonsense im a uk scout leader both boys and girls are accepted this causes little issue, and if anything, a good thing the one difference is that on camps, tents had to be separate from patrols (aka, other than sleeping, girls and boys fully intermixed)

girls joining scouts has not once changed the activites we did and even if we wanted to change the activities, we cant, both boys and girls signed up for scouts, so we give them scouts, not something else
