Today I lost my son. Again. My wife and I have been married for seven years now, and since then we had two beautiful girls (6 & 2) but before our second daughter we were expecting a boy. It was 16 weeks into the pregnancy and with no reason or alarm we lost him. We knew once we saw the ultrasound and the trauma of it recked my wife. The doctor told us to go back home and if anything happens to call and we’ll meet at the hospital. Well… not going into graphic detail. She almost died from blood loss and I spent the next couple of years trying to overcome my depression of losing my son Benjamin. After we had our second daughter we were told that we were in the clear and the chances of another miscarriage were slim. Today. After my wife has been pregnant for 18 weeks the same thing happened. Lost another child. I don’t know why it hurts so much, and why no one talks about the fathers side of this traumatic event. It’s always “how is she doing?” Or “it’s horrible that she went through that.” But they never really ask how the father is. They never ask me how I felt after holding my lil Oscar in my hand while trying to comfort my wife. Or how I have to be strong and never break down. It’s a subject that nobody talks about and sadly with how fathers are being demonized nowadays I feel it’s important that I at least say this. Even if it reaches one person it will be worth it.
