Has anyone here ever received harassment or threats because of their men's rights stance?

I had an interesting reveal today at work.

I work for a Local Safeguarding Children Board in the UK and we were discussing our presence on social media. I mentioned the upcoming Men's Day to my colleagues (all women). They responded positively to advertising it and highlighting all the services in the area available to young boys and men.

I'm not saying that their acceptance is the end of the fight, but I was happy to not receive ridicule in response.

Yesterday, I received an implied threat involving a dead cat and an article of clothing that I wear out a lot since being subject to harassment. As an animal lover, to think that a cat was killed just to intimidate me makes me feel sick.

As a note - animal cruelty and mutilation as threat shows a mentality that is dangerous.

If the item of clothing was on your property before being used as a signal by the abuser, that shows a pattern of invading boundaries without regard.

Implied Aggression of this kind can rapidly escalate.

If you have not done so, I would advise getting matters on record with law enforcement. They may already know who the perp is given the signature abuse of animals.

A murderer doesn't call into question the sacred beliefs of the surrounding society. Yes, that killing someone is wrong is a sacred belief, and rightly so. But a murderer is not, through their speech or actions, a serious threat to the widespread belief that murder is wrong.

An MRA, however, who calls into question the idea that men should be easily disposed of in the spheres of war and work? Now that is a threat.

Every society has a long list of sacred beliefs, and calling them into question is never met well by the general population.

Over time, that list of sacred beliefs has become smaller and more rational, so things have changed quite a bit since the Spanish Inquisition and the Salem Witch trials. But what happens to you when you call into question the remaining sacred beliefs has changed little.

I'm not sure.

Just today, I replied to a Facebook post from a former co-worker who had posted a toxic screed about how all women are sexually victimized and there are no "good men" who will come to their rescue.

I responded with local hometown examples of good men doing good things (crews going to FL for hurricane cleanup, etc) and challenged the self-reporting of sexual assault being significantly higher than confirmed incidents.

I saw a flurry of response notices on my phone, but by the time I got back to Facebook, my comment and all the responses had been deleted.

I don't know if I was harassed, but I was certainly silenced.

They are already on suspension from the their place of employment.

I keep my internet life and real life pretty separate so thankfully I haven't run into too many problems. It's not just for being supportive of MensRights you can get flak but I find the greatest problems come from when you openly defend free speech and expression or try to criticise the violence and harassment feminists get up to. It's amazing how fast they resort to it and yet at the same time try to pass themselves off as reasonable people.

There's always some scumbag when I make this point that comes along thinking they're tough repeating the same old bollocks of "Oh you must be racist and sexist or you must hate minorities and women" I literally just had that happen to me today from some anti-capitalist cunt just because I said I hope Donald Trump wins so he renders these sorts of people powerless.

Naturally, said anti-capitalist took it as a personal affront and decided to go on the attack and thought they could somehow shame me when I know full well the kind of beliefs they hold about the people they claim to 'defend'.

On the bright side, I do think they're getting extremely desperate now, it seems like they're all getting way more aggressive towards people who even slightly disagree with them and I think it's that type of thing above all else that's going to push people to vote for Trump more than any debate or speech especially when it comes to centrists and moderates who are just fed up of the left trying to attack them into joining their side.

Hillary Clinton constantly having very public meltdowns over him and the people against her is probably not going to help much either and neither are the email leaks that are coming out like crazy now.

Most certainly - it's a theme of human nature that repeats itself constantly across history. In fact, when people think of the Salem Witch Trials, they often think of The Crucible - which was written as an allegory for McCarthyism/communist hunts in the 1950s. And is just as applicable to issues of today. It would be easy to do an adaptation of the play for campus rape hysteria (kind of like those Shakespeare adaptations where they keep all the dialogue but film it in a modern setting), for example. Not that anyone would dare, of course, because of the hate mob that would target them.

People can be awful. Hope it doesn't escalate for you.

What do you consider to be impact?

I've self edited to the point where I closed down my Facebook account, created an alter-ego I use on youtube and other social media that I only access via a VPN purchased in another country, for example. There's no direct penalty you can point to other than a LOT of angry people calling me names, but that's because I insulated my professional life from my activism pretty harshly. I live in the same city as a prominent female MRA, for example, but I've hesitated to contact her or her organization, despite the fact I could probably be a help, specifically because there would be massive negative impacts on my family and income with even the slightest of slips.

I've received death threats, a couple of rape threats, first it was funny to have triggered someone so hard, but eventually you just learn to ignore it. (Which makes the hysteria over when it happens to feminists very eye-roll inducing for me.)

Only one that got to me was from an acquaintance who threatened to get my abusive ex to contact me again, which gave me pause and managed to shift the conversation so I lost momentum and later led to a few hours of self-loathing for allowing the mere specter of her involvement to do that to me. It probably still would, or i'd overreact to it in compensation and just go all-out offensive.

A few people on forums I'm on follow me into threads to make single-line whines about how I hate women. S'about it.

This government controlled women's war against men started before they got the right to vote in 1920, but that's when things really started heating up, and then came along the 1970's (the MEN ARE PIGS! era), and the right for women to kill the babies in their bellies. One of the arguments was that it's their bodies. In conjunction with this men should have the right to be free (completely free) from all women and everything that comes out of their bodies. That might solve the problem.

I usually just tell people I believe in equal rights and disagree with modern feminism, rather than call myself an MRA. Fact is, most people think Mens Rights is just being upset at stupid shit; its not. But you can't change people overnight. So distancing myself from the movement's name, while still advocating for its beliefs, helps me get people seeing the truth without alienating them.
