If I look at a painting, and want to fuck it, that's on me; not the artist. Different people get off to different things. Some people get off to cars, others find nudity repulsive and can only get aroused to clothed people.

It is the viewer, not the art, which transforms art into pornography. And it's on the viewer, not the artist, to have a moral compass when it comes to how they view art and how they view everything else around them.

If someone claims that pornography is damaging or offensive, then those people should be rioting over the amount of violence that's shown on network TV. Sexual assault is bad, but if you're implying that media causes more sexual assault, then you should be fiercely up in arms about the amount of fictional murders inspiring real murders.

Read any genuine psychological report on porn, games or media and they will all tell you there are no links between any of these mediums and how normal people treat each other in real life. It is a bullshit assertion made by people both on the right and the left to justify censorship and control of other peoples' work. Now there have been mentally unstable people who can be perhaps be 'triggered' by such things, but in reality and I remember the words one of them used in a TV interview they said that it was a 'catalyst' rather than an actual cause.

If anything the reports out there, particularly on games have proven that people who play games do it to relieve stress, of course, anyone could have told these morons that for free but it helps to have professional backing.

I don't think it's inherently any more bad than watching a movie with an attractive actor/actress, or going to a fashion show, or whatever. The key is that it should be voluntary; porn stars should not be forced into the trade.

Of course not. Porn is just audio or video or stories or other content, of humans doing what humans do with themselves or each other.

Obvious it objectifies the subject, but so does EVERY audio or video or story of a human. And so does EVERY job. Perhaps the worst is the engineer who works for a corporation, only to discover that nothing he invented is his, and nobody will ever even know his name, during his lifetime. Now THAT is objectification.

Most people who watch porn do it because they have an appreciation for the people in it. They want someone like this in their lives, doing these things. Is it a full appreciation? No. But it is appreciation. And it could become more.

What makes porn troublesome is that it comes with shame attached, by the tradcons on the right, and the feminists on the left (they work together on pretty much every sexual issue except lesbians). Without that shame, more of these people would be willing to mesh their porn and non-porn worlds, and would be invited guests on the Ellen show. I'm not silly enough to think we'll actually get there soon, but nevertheless I have hope we can achieve it eventually.

Sexualizing another human isn't objectifying. How can engaging in a natural human action (sex) and finding images of the act dehumanizing? Your finding people attractive for their natural* human characteristics and aroused by their participation of a very human act (pleasurable sex.)

*Natural in the sense that our biology is predisposed to find large breasts, large hips, hourglass figures, etc., attractive, not that all those people came about those features naturally.

That said, that's pornography, not the porn industry.

The mileage varies. There is plenty of porn out there where people are just enjoying themselves sexually. There is also plenty of porn out there where people are forced to have sex against their will. There are porn watchers that recognize watching someone have sex on camera isnt the same as thinking you are owed sex. There are porn watchers that fail to recognize this and size up everyone they meet in terms of sex appeal.

Porn doesnt inherently encourage to objectify others.

Personal story: I went through a period like it sounds like you are going through right now. I forbade myself from masturbation and porn for almost three months.

I strongly recommend against doing this. I have never, ever, been so depressed in my life. I wanted to die. I started hating myself. My libido practically dropped off the face of the earth. Friends stopped recognizing who I was. Girls didn't find me attractive anymore. It fucking sucked man.

Some have stated that port has a negative impact on on how men view women generally and that it leads to increased sexual assault/rape. Neither of these statements is obviously true. Both issues have been studied and, as I recall, the data is mixed but tends not to support the claims.

More generally, I think these claims, like claims linking violent movies and video games to real violence, rely on the proposition that humans cannot separate fantasy from reality. For the most part, I think it is clear that they can.

People view others for sex innately, it's what keeps the species going. When I was 13, I hadn't even seen a porno but that didn't stop me from mentally undressing any attractive woman crossing my path.

Porn might be vulgar and in poor taste at times but that's also highly subjective.
