I'm confused, what's the point of this post ?
[–]Pillowed321 25 points26 points27 points 8 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link
Criticizing the outdated view that men are supposed to shield women from the street, so he gets splashed with mud or hit by a car instead of her. It's a meme that pops up on social media by tradcon men wanting to prove how manly they are. A nice reminder that feminists aren't the only ones opposing us.
[–]azazelcrowley 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Tradcon women too.
[–]8880886 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
TIL 'tradcon' means traditional conservative. I'm still not entirely sure what kind of discussion this image is supposed to provoke in this space, who rarely cares if a man wants to rely on old world values and treat his wif/gf a certain way. If this is a commentary on the way men of a certain gruop choose shame men of a certain group that's an issue but not a men's rights issue, just a social issue of shaming. I don't hate on women that choose the 'tradcon' lifestyle to the men in thier life, especially not the way feminism does, so why should we here be doing the same. Honestly this title is so vague I have no idea what point OP is trying make.

but not a men's rights issue
Yes it is. Shaming men for not adhering to sexist traditional gender roles is a men's rights issue.

I'm sorry, treating men as disposable is something we very much care about.
[–]8880886 -3 points-2 points-1 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Well yeah no man should be treated as disposable, but this is scraping the bottom of the barrel kind of petty.
[–]bufedad 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
People thinking that mens' lives are disposable being an issue is petty?
[–]8880886 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I'm clearly talking about being on the 'wrong side of the side walk' meme.
[–]bufedad 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You mean the meme about how men should give up their lives for those that really matter (women)? Me too
[–]Pillowed321 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
One of the reasons for this traditionalist role is that being closer to the road puts you at greater risk of being hit by a car. The idea is that a real man should be willing to put his life at risk and always walk on that side.
It's full of some kind of foreign savages judging by that flag, and that flag being there means it's not a colony of the empire yet. I'm back from the bathroom by the way, did I miss anything?
Britishness intensifies
[–]LinearActuator 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Look at all the JPEG artifacts, that's not good. I'm a gentleman.
[–]howdy_im_jon 16 points17 points18 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Ugh.
What kind of a terrible man forces his woman to walk that close to the street? Doesn't he know that's where he's supposed to walk. He's the first line of defense against cars or rocks/dust/puddle water that gets thrown up by cars passing by.
Not to mention he probably forced her to wear those high-heels. I bet he's hoping she breaks a heel and stumbles into oncoming traffic.
So much misogyny in one picture, I can't even.
[–]AnHonestFemale 11 points12 points13 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Psh, there was never anything wrong with this picture.
[–]movie_addict97 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The purse color doesn't go with the outfit..just saying.
[–]WoodChucking 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I had this drilled into me for so long that I would feel uncomfortable walking on the inside like that.
It doesn't occur to me that I should be on the outside because it is the proper etiquette. It's more that it just feels weird.
[–]Lethn 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I try not to use the word so casually but that is just a form of indoctrination though perhaps it would be more accurate to describe it as social peer pressure. It's the same reason why we have this aversion in the UK to all things 'right wing' it's because for years we've listened to hysterical left wing parents and supposed 'adults' harping on about the days of Margaret Thatcher and declaring therefore that anybody who is remotely right leaning supports evil right wing policies and wants to see poor people starving in the streets.
It's all based off scare mongering and shaming designed to make you think that only one way of behaving in life is acceptable.
[–]theothermod 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It uses fonts that clash with each other. That's bad design.
[–]User-31f64a4e 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That she is over pronating, probably due to flat feet? Oh, wait, that's podiatrists, not gentlemen.
That he is with a post-wall, hefty, low value woman? Oh, wait, that's PUAs, not gentlemen.
Frankly, "gentleman" means "cowtows to gynocentrism", so I have no idea!
[–]Red-Pillis 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
She should be walking three feet to the right.
[–]Male_Positive 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If they are a couple, they should be holding hands. What happened to romance?
[–]tenchineuro 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
My ex-GF would never have let anything like this happen, she was quite vocal about it.
Edit: just noticed that he's wearing sandals, so they are probably not a traditional couple (if a couple).
[–]LoganBlade13 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Oh for fucks sake
[–]tomweya 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Hmm looking at it through a feminist lens I see a man in the picture which is immediately a problem.
I also note that he isn't on the side of the sidewalk where he can be pushed into traffic by her like that guy a woman pushed in front of a train.
[–]CTroy2 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago* (7 children) | Copy Link
Im a woman and I dont get it. Its summer in that picture for one thing and for another if your dumbass is running around in a short skirt and tank top during the winter you arent automatically entitled to his jacket. Thats basically saying you're weak, shallow, AND stupid. This picture makes me irrationally angry....
[–]Neko404 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
A gentleman is suppose to walk between the lady and the road to shield the lady with his body from water, debris, on coming traffic, what ever that could come from the street.
[–]kevingrumbles 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
That's the obvious answer, but its really a trick question. The problem is she's out of earshot of the timer on the oven.
[–]Neko404 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Right, she’s not bare foot, pregnant and in the kitchen. How silly of me to forget.
[–]spicyfish77[S] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
My boy :)
[–]Neko404 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I am no gentleman though, I am hoping for one of those heels to snap and she falls onto the road.
[–]CTroy2 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If you cant run from an active shooter in the shoes you are wearing maybe its not a good idea to wear them. I'll never understand why other women wear heels. They are impractical, painful and very bad for your feet...
[–]Mythandros 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I agree. It's that old "who cares if the man is uncomfortable so long as he sacrifices for her comfort".
If she chose to walk in a skirt and no sleeves in the cold... That is her CHOICE and she alone can deal with the consequences of that choice.
[–]fasterfind -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I thought perhaps he was supposed to be carrying her purse.
But look again, she's muscular as fuck. Is that a gay dude?
Shitty meme.
