Overall it seems like a great way to theoretically discuss problems without people automatically freaking out. The issue I have is the discussions and posts that are there and what they cover.
So I decided to take another look as I do occasionally and at first it seemed fine. Then I noticed the problem. Most if not all posts were either calling out toxic masculinity or just hopping on the suicide issue, which while it exists, is only part of the larger picture.
There is very little about issues such as the divorce issue and general discrimination based false allegations and convictions.
Even worse there is a lot of antagonism going on from what I've seen. While some is understood (like the incel movement and other crazy people along those lines), there are still lots of people who don't like MRAs, just because of how they lazily perceive all of them.
That would be fine and all at least if they went after the toxic things women did to affect men (because men's issues after all), but no. They proceed to dismiss it as sexism and whatnot.
Now how do I believe it can be fixed? One user there said bitterness is the cause of men not liking feminism. So here are some ideas for decreasing bitterness.
Greater emphasis on causes for suicide and other issues/concerns Users there seem to hop all over that so looking into it more than just blaming it on masculinity could be beneficial. Providing more of a way to voice true concerns in an honest way without backlash would make it easier for everyone. It would make it easier to speak out about concerns making circlejerks less likely. That way the decent majority may be able to gain more awareness of the concerns in question.
Less unwarranted antagonism I get it, some people are bad. Not automatically thinking of someone as sexist would help prevent bitterness. Simple as that. People should listen and add useful ideas to the discussion.
I may refine this further to put on r/MensLib as an olive branch. I honestly think if we can get people more aware of these problems and break down the wall between MensLib and Men's Rights then more discussions could be fostered.
