I saw this last night. There is a prominent female ape and a female human character. Both only communicate via sign language, as do most of the apes. The human character had an important plot reason for not being able to speak.

I saw it last night and, as many have pointed out, there are female apes and a girl who regularly sign throughout the film. There are also female army soldiers on the human side who talk (although they really are more extras than anything)
